Kia India Achieves 5 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone
Kia India achieves 5 lakh unit sales milestone in just 3 years of introducing its first model in the country. The feat achieved by Kia India is not an ordinary achievement, especially considering the pandemic-related difficulties that plagued the Indian automobile market in 2020 and 2021.
Moreover, Kia is currently competing with Mahindra to become the 4th largest automaker in India.
Kia's entry into the Indian automobile market was announced way back in 2017 after the company managed to acquire 536-acre land in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Following this, the construction of the manufacturing plant at the acquired location commenced and the first production trial commenced in January 2019.
At present, Kia's Anantapur manufacturing facility has an annual capacity of over 3 lakh. However, Kia is looking forward to further expanding its production as the demand for its vehicles are increasing rapidly.
Though the Kia Sonet is currently the most affordable Kia in India, the company initially launched the Kia Seltos in India. The very success of the Kia Seltos SUV laid the foundations for the company in India.
When Kia launched the Seltos in India, the SUV immediately gained more than decent traction in India with its long list of features, decent powertrain options and a justifiable price tag.
In 2020, Kia introduced the Kia Carnival MUV and Kia Sonet sub-4m SUV in the Indian market. However, the launch of Kia Sonet further strengthened Kia India as the model replicated the success of the Seltos SUV.
Now, the launch of Kia Carens MUV has helped the company with much-needed sales boost to compete with bigger automobile manufacturers such as Mahindra and Tata Motors.
Coming to the numbers, Kia India's production count in the year stands at 57,719 units and the domestic sales numbers stands at 44,918 units. These numbers are astonishing for a company with no roots in the Indian market. In addition to that, 755 models produced in the Anantapur facility were exported as well.
The following year, Kia India more than tripled its production in India as the company produced 1,77,982 units. Moreover, domestic sales figures almost tripled as the company managed to sell 1,39,714 units, and export numbers jumped to 29,358 units in 2020.
In 2021, Kia India further improved its production to an impressive 2,27,844 units and domestic sales figures also improved to an equally impressive 1,82,655 units. Moreover, the export numbers also increased to 53,247 units.
Now, in a bid to conquer the EV market, Kia India has also launched the Kia EV6 electric vehicle in India. This model will be brought to India as CBU and the initial batch has already been sold out.
Thoughts About Kia India
The success of Kia Motors is a remarkable achievement and we expect more milestones for the South Korean automaker as the company is growing rapidly in the country.
