The Jeep Meridian SUV is powered by the same turbocharged diesel engine found on the Compass.

The 2.0-litre Multijet engine produces 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to either a 9-speed torque converter automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel Meridian will be offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 guises. The Meridian will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 10.8 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 198km/h.

The Jeep Meridian is larger in all dimensions compared to the Compass. The Jeep Meridian is 4,769mm long, 1,859mm wide and 1,682mm tall. The wheelbase of the Meridian is 2,794mm long. The Jeep Meridian is 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 42mm taller than the 5-seater Compass.

The wheelbase of the Meridian is 158mm longer than that of the Compass. The front track is 1,580mm wide while the rear track is 10mm wider.

The Jeep Meridian looks to be a slightly extended version of the Compass in terms of its looks. Up at the front, the iconic Jeep multi-slat (7 for those who are keeping count) grille is flanked on either side by LED headlights. The front bumper section features a large air dam in the centre flanked on either side by air intakes. This is also where you find the LED fog lamps.

The sides of the Jeep Meridian feature chunky wheel arches that play host to some snazzy new 18-inch alloy wheels. The sides of the Meridian feature slightly larger doors compared to the Compass thanks to the longer wheelbase. At the rear, the sleeker taillights remind you of the larger Wagoneer SUV. The Meridian's tailgate is a powered unit that features custom opening heights for safe opening in various environments.

Step inside the Jeep Meridian and you're greeted by premium looking interiors with brown upholstery and a multi-layered dashboard. The dashboard is dominated by the 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which is connected to an Alpine audio system. Also seen is a large 10.25-inch display for the instrumentation.

The Meridian features a dual-zone climate control system with an auxiliary vent for the second and third row of seats. The Emperador Brown upholstery matches the main section of the multi-layered dashboard, which gives the SUV's interior a very premium feel.

The seats have been designed for comfort and all three rows can be reclined. There are storage areas for all three rows of seats. All the seats feature ventilation which should help with dealing with the heat. The Jeep Meridian comes packed with over 60 plus safety features including traction control, hill hold assist, electronic stability control among others. Also included is a 360 degree camera.

The Jeep Meridian is what the carmaker calls a love letter to the Indian market. The sophisticated design and premium interiors along with the powerful drivetrain position the Jeep Meridian as a premium vehicle that should help the carmaker make its mark in the segment.
