American SUV manufacturer Jeep has revealed the Avenger, Recon and Wagoneer S EVs as it begins its transition toward a fully electric future.
The three electric SUVs were revealed as part of the brand's Jeep 4xe Day. The event showed off the new EVs and gave us our first look at Jeep's 4xe portfolio, which the American marque claims enhancing its legendary 4x4 capability with the use of electrification and technology. The currently announced lineup of electric SUVs is currently focused on the North American and European markets with specific plans for other regions set to be announced in the future.
Speaking at the Jeep 4xe Day event, Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO said, "Driven by the success of our electrified 4xe portfolio in North America and Europe, we are designing and developing the most capable and sustainable Jeep SUVs to date, on our path to becoming the leading zero-emission SUV brand in the world. This is a forward-thinking strategy to help ensure millions of Jeep fans around the world continue to have a planet to explore, embrace and protect. Electrification is great for our brand, making it even more capable, exciting, sustainable and fun."
The first of the three electric SUVs introduced at the event was the Avenger. The all-new Avenger is meant for the European market and will be the first ever electric vehicle to bear the Jeep name. The Jeep Avenger will make its debut at this year's Paris Motor Show on the 17th of October and will hit European roads in early 2023.
Jeep will position the new Avenger under the Renegade and the all-new electric SUV will also be sold in other markets such as Japan and South Korea. Jeep is targeting a driving range of 400 kilometres with the all-new Avenger and it claims the electric SUV will offer impressive ground clearance, breakover and approach angles for its segment, while delivering a modern and technologically advanced interior, with plenty of space for people and cargo.
Jeep also revealed the Recon electric SUV at 4xe Day. The Jeep Recon electric SUV will make its official debut next year and will be the first electric SUV from the marque in its home market. Production on the Jeep Recon will start in 2024.
Jeep claims that the new Recon is designed from the ground up to be 100% Jeep 4x4 and 100% zero emission. Jeep claims the new Recon will be sold exclusively as a BEV and will feature off-roading tech including Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks and aggressive off-road tires. The Recon will also feature's Jeep's one-touch powertop, along with removable doors and glass.
The final SUV revealed at the Jeep 4xe Day event is the most luxurious and powerful of the lot. Codenamed the Wagoneer S, this all-electric Jeep SUV sports a unique, sleek, aerodynamic design and 4x4 capability as standard, with all-terrain management, advanced Jeep brand-focused technology and impressive performance credentials.
Jeep claims that the Wagoneer S will offer a range of 400 miles (643.7km) on a single charge, 600hp and a 0-60miles/hr (0-96.5km/h) time of just 3.5 seconds.
Thoughts About Jeep's New Electric 4xe Lineup
Jeep's new 4xe lineup sees the American SUV brand finally go down the electric route. While the Avenger and Recon look to be the Jeep mainstays of the future, the Wagoneer S shows us the power-obsessed side of Jeep that we really expect to see with a shift to electric propulsion.
