Hyundai Elantra Removed From Official Website - Elantra Discontinued?

As we know, the executive C-segment in India was once a huge market and buying these cars was once a status symbol - Letting others know that you are doing very good in your life.

Just a decade back, the executive sedan market in India was buzzing with cut-throat competition with cars such as Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Jetta.

However, the global trend for SUVs and the arrival of mid-size SUVs have hit this particular segment very hard. More and more people found themselves buying these SUVs instead of these beautifully engineered executive sedans.

One of the biggest advantages of buying an executive sedan is that these sedans offered more space, used more premium materials, less cost-cutting measures were taken by manufacturers and offered significantly more powerful engines compared to the engines used the lower segment cars such as Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and a few more.

Apart from that, customers of this segment generally wanted something better for themselves and didn't bother to shell out a few more extra bucks.

Speaking about the Hyundai Elantra sedan, it offered a very stylish coupe-like silhouette and was packed with features like no other sedan in its segment. Moreover, it was one of the first mass-market models to feature ventilated front seats in the country.

The Hyundai Elantra sedan in India came with two engine options - A 1.5-litre turbocharged CRDi diesel engine and a more powerful 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

While the diesel engine produced a mediocre 114bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque, the larger petrol engine pushed out a respectable 150bhp of peak power and 192Nm of peak torque.

Transmission options on both these engine options included a 6-speed manual transmission or a more urban-friendly 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

As mentioned earlier, the Hyundai Elantra sedan came packed with features and some of the noteworthy features in the executive sedan included an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, an electric sunroof, connected car tech, an Infinity sound system, dual-zone climate control, and many more.

In terms of safety, the Hyundai Elantra offered decent life-saving safety features such as 6-airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS, EBD, front and rear parking sensors and a few more.

Before being removed from the website, Hyundai offered the Elantra in two trim levels - SX and SX (O), and prices started from Rs 17.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

There is also a high possibility that Hyundai could launch the third-generation Elantra sedan in the Indian market. However, Hyundai is yet to comment on this.

Thoughts About The Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra offered more features than the Hyundai Verna, Hyundai forget that customers in this segment generally clocked more distance and favoured diesel powertrains. Even though Hyundai offered the diesel powertrain, the fact that the powertrain was shared with Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Verna pushed these customers away from shelling out more money just for a few extra features on the Elantra.
