Hyundai Bets Big On Hydrogen Power For UAE & Africa; Puts Fuel Cell Vision 2030 Into Action
Hyundai bets big on Hydrogen power for the Middle East & African markets. Reports have revealed that Hyundai is building a Hydrogen-fueled future in this important market with several countries in the region.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles have been around for a long time now. There is no doubt about the efficiency of hydrogen as a fuel and the reliability of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles too is now tested and proven. The only element holding the entire world back from adapting to hydrogen as a fuel is the difficulty faced in transporting and storing the gas.
Hyundai though seems committed to introducing it as the fuel of choice in the UAE and Africa in the near fuel. Hyundai already produces and retails some hydrogen FCEV products in some markets. The Korean brand introduced the Santa Fe FCEV which was also the first mass-produced hydrogen-fueled car in the world.
Now, Hyundai is looking at the next generation fuel cell technology which would quite obviously involve more innovation and will certainly be futuristic. This is what Hyundai plans to use, to make mobility greener in the UAE and Africa.
This new step certainly falls in line with the 'Fuel Cell Vision 2030' roadmap introduced by Hyundai in December 2018. According to this roadmap, Hyundai is looking to introduce fuel cell power not just for cars, but also for ships of various sizes, railcars, drones, and even power generators.
Hyoung Jung Im, Head of Hyundai Motor Company Middle East and Africa HQ was quoted as saying, "Twenty years ago, Hyundai Motor Company established a dedicated research team to develop its Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) technology. The vision was simple - FCEVs that use fuel cells and electric vehicles (EVs) can make a huge impact in the market, by shifting from conventional engines to more eco-friendly technologies.

Given how Hyundai works, we're sure a lot of research and thought has gone into betting big on Hydrogen for these markets. We certainly hope the big bet pays off for Hyundai.
