Japanese car manufacturer Honda has launched the City e:HEV hybrid in India. The Honda City e:HEV is priced at Rs 19.50 lakhs (ex-showroom) and is only offered in ZX guise.

Commenting on the India launch of the City e:HEV, Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, "Today, we embark on our electrification journey in India with the launch of New City e:HEV, reaffirming our commitment to bringing the best and most meaningful technologies to the country. The tremendous response received on the unveil of the model last month reflects the acceptance of the Strong Hybrid technology in the mainstream segment. The New City e:HEV offers many firsts in the segment, in line with the legacy of Honda City - setting benchmarks for the industry with each introduction."

Honda City e:HEV Specs & Features

The Honda City e:HEV is powered by a strong hybrid powertrain which combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with two electric motors. While one of the motors acts as the starter/generator, the other helps to propel the new City e:HEV Hybrid. The twin motor and Atkinson cycle in the Honda City e:HEV combine to produce 126bhp and 253Nm of peak torque. The Honda City e:HEV delivers a best-in-class mileage of 26.5km/l.

The Honda City e:HEV has three driving modes - pure electric EV, Hybrid and engine. While the EV and engine drive modes exclusively use the motors and engine respectively, the hybrid mode combines both IC and pure electric components. The driving modes are controlled automatically by the City e:HEV's electronics.

Honda has also fitted the new City eHEV with a host of advanced driver assistance systems as part of the Honda Sensing suite. These include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Auto High-Beam.

The Honda City e:HEV also comes with a host of connected car features and now also works with smartwatches while also supporting Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands.

The Honda City e:HEV hybrid also gets a few subtle tweaks that differentiate it from regular City models. These tweaks include blue borders for the Honda badges, new housings for the fog lamps and a new boot lip spoiler. Inside, the Honda City e:HEV features a dual-tone theme and electronic parking brake.

Honda is offering the new City e:HEV with a 3-year Unlimited kilometres warranty as standard. Extended Warranty up to 5 years and Anytime Warranty up to 10 years from the date of car purchase. The standard warranty for the lithium-ion battery used by the hybrid powertrain gets an 8-year or 1,60,000 Km (whichever comes first) warranty from the date of the car's purchase.

The Honda City e:HEV is offered in 5 different colour options - Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic.

The Honda City e:HEV sees the Japanese carmaker bring its hybrid tech to a more mainstream audience in India. Currently, the Honda City e:HEV hybrid has no rivals in the Indian market, though that could change in the future.
