Gujarat Gets India's First Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC Electric Sedan
Mercedes-Benz has delivered the first unit of the recently launched and locally-assembled EQS 580 4MATIC electric sedan in India. This electric sedan was delivered to Dr Pooja Seth and Dr Ridham Seth in Gujarat.
Speaking about the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC, the electric sedan is the 14th three-pointed star model to be built in India. In addition to that, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is the EV equivalent of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan.
Since the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is a battery-powered electric vehicle, let's start with the obvious - The battery pack and the range. As mentioned earlier, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is the EV equivalent of the German automaker's flagship S-Class sedan, Mercedes-Benz followed an uncompromising approach with the EQS 580 4MATIC and packed the model with a ginormous 107.8kWh battery pack.
Thanks to such a large battery pack, efficient electric motors and smart battery management systems, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC electric sedan comes with an ARAI-certified range of 850 kilometres per full charge. As such, we expect the electric sedan to do around 650 kilometres in real-world conditions - Which is on par with most luxury sedans in India.
One of the biggest demerits of an electric car is the charging time. However, Mercedes-Benz has been able to partially overcome this issue on the EQS 580 4MATIC electric sedan by enabling the model to charge using a 200kW DC fast charger. As a result, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC can charge from 10 per cent of its battery capacity to 80 per cent in just 31 minutes - Which is less than the charging time of almost all electric scooters in India.
Coming to the powertrain setup, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC packs quite a punch. The four electric motors driving the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC puts out a combined 523bhp of peak power and 856Nm of peak torque. Thanks to this powertrain setup, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC can sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in just 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 210km/h.
In terms of design, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC might not be to everyone's liking as it has been not been designed to please the eye but to please the wind with a drag coefficient of just 0.2. - Which is the lowest of any production car in the world.
However, the interior design of the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is like stepping into the future with its 'Hyperscreen' - Which is essentially three OLED screens put under one continuous glass panel that stretches from one end to the other end of the car. In addition to this, Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC gets features such as 3D maps, a heads-up display, massaging seats, an MBUX tablet for rear passengers and many more.
At present, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is priced at Rs 1.55 Crore (ex-showroom, India), and the model can be booked by paying Rs 25 lakhs.
Thoughts About The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC
Thanks to the large battery pack and efficient yet powerful motors, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC can more than fit the bill of most luxury sedan buyers in India. As such, we expect this model to suffice well in the Indian market.
