754bhp GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 Is GM's Answer To The Ford F-150 Lightning

The Denali Edition 1 will not be the only version of the Sierra EV. GMC will start shipping the regular Denali in the Spring of 2024. A more off-roading focused AT4 with 18-inch wheels and 35-inch all-terrain tyres will arrive in late 2024 while the Elevation model will hit the roads in early 2025.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be offered with a dual motor setup and while the size of the Ultium battery pack hasn't been officially revealed GM claims that the Denali Edition 1 will deliver an estimated range of 400 miles (644 kilometres) on a single charge.

GM claims when the Denali Edition 1 is connected to a 350kW DC charger, the electric pickup truck will recuperate 100 miles (161km) of charge in just 10 minutes. The pickup truck features a 19.2 kW onboard AC charging module.

The actual output from the dual motor setup for the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is a claimed 754bhp and 1,064Nm of peak torque in the Max Power driving mode which allows for a 0-60 miles/hour (0-96.5km/h) of just 4.5 seconds. Other driving modes on offer include Standard, Tow/Haul, Off-Road and the fully customizable My Mode.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 sports four-wheel steer with the ability to crab walk like the Hummer EV. Other features on the new electric pickup truck include the ability to tow loads up to 4,309kg (9,500lb), Regen On-Demand Braking, One-Pedal Driving and GM's Super Cruise driver assistance system (Denali Edition 1 owners get a 3-year Super Cruise subscription as standard).

Thanks to its electric powertrain, the GMC Sierra Denali Edition 1 has the ability to turn itself into a massive power bank on wheels offering up to 10.2 kW in off-board power. GMC claims that the Sierra EV will be able to power a home's essential necessities for up to 21 days.

The Denali Edition 1 version of the upcoming Sierra EV will only be offered in crew cab guise. The electric truck will sport a 5-foot, 11-inch (1.8 metres) long cargo bed which can be expanded by lowering the tailgate and opening up the rear side of the cab which increases the length to a massive 10-foot, 10-inches (3.3 metres). The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has a payload capacity of 590kg (1,300lb).

The insides of the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 sport a massive 16.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen for the infotainment system that thankfully seems to have a few analogue controllers. Other features include an 11-inch driver's display sitting behind a steering wheel with Denali badging. The Sierra EV will get over-the-air (OTA) updates which will help keep the systems that power the displays updated.

The cabin features quite a bit of aluminium, stainless steel and open-pore wood and there is a large panoramic glass roof on top to let a lot of light inside the cab.

Thoughts On The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is the riposte from General Motors in response to the Ford F-150 Lightning. While this version of the pickup truck will command a price tag of $107,000, other versions of the EV are expected to bring the price as low as $50,000, which should make it quite an appealing prospect for buyers wherever GMC makes Sierra EV available.
