Ferrari 296 GTB Supercar Launched In India At Rs 5.40 Crore - Hybrid V6 Powertrain

Speaking about this new supercar from Ferrari, the 296 GTB is a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) supercar. Moreover, Ferrari presents the model as the first "real Ferrari with six cylinders". Speaking about cylinders, the new Ferrari 296 GTB uses a V6 internal combustion engine.
This new V6 engine is a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged unit capable of producing 654bhp of peak power at 8,000rpm. However, as mentioned earlier, this powertrain being a hybrid unit is further assisted by two YASA MGU-K dual-rotor single-stator axial flux electric motors. These electric motors produce a total of 165bhp of power.
In combined form, this hybrid powertrain produces 818bhp of peak power and 740Nm of peak torque. Unlike other hybrid supercars, the power and torque is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Unlike the Ferrari LaFerrai, the Ferrari 296 GTB can run on electric power alone. This means you can start the Ferrari 296 GTB supercar without waking up the neighbours.
In EV mode, the Ferrari 296 GTB supercar is claimed to reach speeds up to 135km/h and can travel 25km on a fully charged battery pack. Speaking about the battery pack, Ferrari 296 GTB sports a 7.45kWh battery pack and it is placed behind the seats for better weight distribution.
Ferrari claims that the battery pack on the 296 GTB supercar can be charged in under 1 hour using the standard charger.
In terms of performance numbers, the Ferrari 296 GTB is an absolute monster with 200km/h coming up from a standstill in just 7.3 seconds (A full second faster than the Ferrari 488 Pista). Despite being a rear-wheel drive car, the Ferrari 296 GTB can accelerate to 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds and also reach a top speed excess of 330km/h.
Like all modern Ferrari supercars, the character of the car can be changed in an instant via the 'eManettino' dial on the steering wheel. Through the eManettino dial, the driver can switch between the four driving modes - eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify.
Out of these drive modes, the 'Qualify' mode in the Ferrari 296 GTB is the most aggressive mode designed to put the best lap time. In fact, Ferrari claims that the 296 GTB has lapped the Fiorano test track in just 1 minute 21 seconds - Which is half a second faster than the hardcore Ferrari 488 Pista supercar.
While Ferrari is well-known to offer a long list of optional extras, the India-specific version of the Ferrari 296 GTB supercar comes equipped with a carbon-fibre steering wheel, Alacantara-wrapped electric seats, surround-view camera, contrast stitching, suspension lift, black ceramic exhaust pipes, and a set of lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
Thoughts About The Ferrari 296 GTB
With a V6 powertrain at its heart, the Ferrari 296 GTB sets a new direction for the Italian supercar manufacturer. That being said, the loss of cylinders hasn't dented the performance or the desirability of the Ferrari supercar.
