Facelifted MG Hector SUV To Feature 14-Inch Portrait-Style HD Infotainment Screen

Earlier, the facelifted version of the MG Hector SUV was spotted testing in the country as well. This means MG Motor is gearing up to launch the updated iteration of the Hector SUV soon in the Indian automobile market.

The last update to the MG Hector SUV was made in 2021 and that update was a mild update that barely made any stand-out distinction on the Hector SUV. However, the Hector SUV continued to look a bit fresher as the model was launched in 2019.

Fast forward to 2022, new entrants have arrived in the C and D segment SUV category and it has become difficult for the MG Hector to stand out from the crowd with its long feature list alone as newly launched models also come with many similar feature list.

This means the automaker has to substantially update the model to attract customers to its showrooms and a mild update won't do any difference.

MG knows this very well and the company has already started testing the facelifted iteration of the MG Hector SUV in India. Now, the latest teaser signifies that the upcoming Hector facelift will also have a heavily updated interior with a substantially improved feature list.

This is especially true considering the previous spy shots of the facelifted version of the MG Hector SUV seem to sport Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) as well - Not surprising, given the automotive trend in India.

The ADAS is an active safety system and it is already available in MG vehicles such as MG Gloster and MG Astor. While the flagship MG Gloster gets Level 1 ADAS, the MG Astor SUV gets a more advanced Level 2 ADAS with features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Parking Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and much more. Other than this, we also expect MG to equip the updated MG Hector SUV with AI Assistant.

The present version of the MG Hector SUV is almost 3 years old (neglecting the mild facelift in 2021), but the model is still one of the best-equipped SUVs in India with features such as a 360-degree surround-view camera, a large portrait-style infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, powered ORVM, powered seat adjustments, steering mounted audio controls, premium music system, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, cooled glove box, panoramic sunroof, LED headlights and many more.

So, given the already long list of features, it is yet to be seen what kind of features MG will bring to this price point with the launch of the heavily updated MG Hector SUV.

However, in terms of powertrain, we expect MG to continue similar engine options. As always, the popular choice is among customers is likely to be the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 167.75bhp of peak power and 350Nm of peak torque. Though this unit comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, we do expect to see a new automatic transmission in the updated model.

On the other hand, the 1.5-litre petrol engine with 141bhp of power and 250Nm of torque may sport an ISG for better fuel efficiency. Gearbox options are likely to continue with the same 6-speed manual and CVT.

Given the already long list of features, it is yet to be seen what kind of features MG will bring to this price point in 2022 with the launch of the heavily updated MG Hector SUV.
