Compact SUV Sales Breakup For October 2022 - Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, Astor, Taigun & More

Hyundai Creta (11,880 Units)

Despite new launches in its segment, the Hyundai Creta SUV remains a popular choice in the Indian SUV market. In October 2022, Hyundai witnessed a strong recovery and managed to sell 11,880 units of Creta SUVs in India. This resulted in a YoY sales increase of more than 84 per cent. However, MoM sales dropped by more than 7 per cent as the company sold 926 more units in the previous month.

Kia Seltos (9,777 Units)

Though Kia Seltos is currently the best-selling Kia model in the country by managing to rack up good sales figures for the South Korean automaker, the YoY sales figures dipped by almost 7 per cent as the company managed to sell just 9,777 units of Seltos SUVs in India. On top of that, MoM sales also dipped by more than 11 per cent as the company managed to sell 11,000 units of Seltos SUV in September 2022.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (8,052 Units)

Despite being a new SUV in the Indian automobile market, Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 8,052 units of Grand Vitara SUV in India - Just a few thousand units below the segment leader. Part of this success could be credited to the hybrid-only powertrain options available with the SUV. Moreover, the automaker is now gearing up to launch the CNG variant of the SUV to attract even more customers. Also, the MoM sales figure improved by almost 69 per cent.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder (3,384 Units)

Though the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUVs are essentially the same SUVs albeit with different badges and names, Toyota couldn't manage the sales figure achieved by the Indo-Japanese automaker with its Grand Vitara SUV as it managed to sell just 3,384 units in October 2022.

Volkswagen Taigun (2,355 Units)

Under the sheet metal and plastic trim, the Volkswagen Taigun SUV is identical to the Skoda Kushaq. In October 2022, Volkswagen managed to sell 2,355 units of Taigun SUVs, resulting in a YoY sales dip of almost 8 per cent. However, MoM sales figures for the Made-in-India German SUV improved by more than 18 per cent.

MG Astor (1,774 Units)

The demand for the MG Astor SUV well exceeded the automaker's expectations initially. However, the recent semiconductor shortage has hampered its outright sales figures by a considerable margin. Despite that, the MG Astor managed to outsell the Skoda Kushaq SUV by managing to sell 1,774 units in October 2022. Moreover, the MoM sales figures for the MG Astor SUV also improved by 81 per cent as the automaker after the strong sales performance.

Skoda Kushaq (1,691 Units)

While the launch of the Skoda Kushaq SUV had been a game-changer for the Czech automaker in India, the month of October has been a little rough with dwindling YoY and MoM sales figures as the company managed to sell just 1,691 units in October 2022. As mentioned, both YoY and MoM sales figures fell by 29.9 and 23.9 per cent, respectively.

Nissan Kicks (242 units)

The Nissan Kicks SUV was launched in the Indian market with a lot of expectations. Though the model could have been a worthy rival to the Hyundai Creta, the lack of focus and poor strategies stopped the SUV from reaching its full potential.

In October 2022, Nissan managed to sell just 242 units of its Kicks SUV in India, registering a YoY sales increase of more than 5 per cent. Moreover, MoM sales performance also improved by 124 per cent as the company sold just 108 units in the previous month.

Thoughts About Compact SUVs In India

The total compact SUV sales stand at 39,155 units in October 2022, resulting in YoY and MoM increase of 60 per cent and 11.7 per cent, respectively. Moreover, it is clear that the South Korean automakers still have a clear upper hand in this segment.
