BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV Bags 5-Star Safety Rating At The Euro NCAP
The upcoming BYD Atto 3 electric SUV has bagged 5-Star safety rating at the Euro NCAP crash test. Since the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV is brought to India as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, this safety rating will also be applicable to the models sold in India.
Diving into the details of the crash test conducted by Euro NCAP, the new BYD Atto 3 electric SUV scored 34.7 points out of 38 points for adult occupant protection, whereas the electric SUV also scored 44 points out of 49 points for child safety.
It is also worth mentioning that, most of the safety parameters were rated either 'good' or 'adequate' by Euro NCAP for adult occupant protection, except for the driver's torso as it was found to have somewhat weaker protection during lateral impact test with side pole. In addition to that, a few points for child safety were only lost due to the lack of an integrated child restraint system (CRS).
Coming to the pedestrian safety and driver assistance systems, the BYD Atto 3 scored a respectable 69 per cent. Moreover, the automatic emergency braking (AEB) system performed well to avoid most of the collision scenarios. Also, the lane-keeping assistance system worked pretty well to correct the vehicle's path while slipping out of the lane. However, despite the decent performance, some points were deducted for not having a driver fatigue detection feature, and the overall safety assist features were rated at 74 per cent.
Coming to the safety features, the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV comes with top-shelf safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), Hill Hold Assistance, rear parking sensors, 360-degree surround view camera, and many more. In addition to that, the electric SUV also features advanced safety systems such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, forward collision warning (FCW), lane-keeping assist, door open warning, blind-spot monitoring system, auto emergency braking (AEB), rear cross-traffic alert and more.
At present, bookings for the Atto 3 electric SUV is open and interested customers can book the model for Rs 50,000. Also, with the increased interest among consumers for safer cars, we expect the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to gain decent traction in the Indian automobile market.
Under this skin, the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV packs a massive 60.48kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and it also comes with an equally impressive 201bhp electric motor. Both of these statistics make the BYD Atto 3 a step ahead of its main rivals, the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona.
Thanks to this powertrain setup, the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV can accelerate from a standstill to 100km/h in just 7.3 seconds and also comes with an ARAI-rated range of 521 kilometres. Also, despite having a large battery pack, the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV takes just 50 minutes to charge to 80 per cent of the battery capacity using a 100kW fast charger.
The upcoming BYD Atto 3 electric SUV is also loaded with tech and the centre of attraction on the interior of the electric SUV is its large 12.8-inches touchscreen infotainment unit that can be rotated to either landscape orientation or portrait orientation. Other features note-worthy features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charging pad, a digital driver's display, auto climate control, an 8-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof, CN95 air filter, voice control, ventilated seats, rear AC vents and much more.
We expect BYD to aggressively price the upcoming BYD Atto 3 electric SUV with a price tag of around Rs 25 lakh. At present, there are 24 showrooms for BYD in India, located in 21 cities and the automaker is planning to develop at least 53 showrooms by the end of 2023. The most recently opened showroom is the one in Jaipur. In addition to that, BYD intends to sell 15,000 units of Atto 3 electric SUVs in 2023.
Thoughts About The Upcoming BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV
The electric four-wheeler sales is gradually increasing in the country and the launch of the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV will give customers more choice in the market. Moreover, BYD is rapidly expanding its operations in India as BYD plans to aggressively take on the Indian EV market with the Atto 3 electric SUV. However, the success of the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV will heavily depend on the pricing.
