Best-Selling Large SUVs In June 2022: Fortuner, Meridian, Gloster, Kodiaq, Alturas, & Endeavour

Toyota Fortuner (3,133 units)

The Toyota Fortuner is once again the best-selling large SUV in India. The SUV is very common among businessmen and almost every politician in the country has one in their garage. Apart from that, the massive road presence of the SUV allows the user to bully his way in the traffic.

In June 2022, Toyota sold 3,133 units of Fortuner SUVs in India. This has resulted in an almost 470 per cent increase in YoY sales figures as the company manages to sell 2,584 units more this year. In addition to that, MoM sales have increased by more than 164 per cent as the Japanese automaker sold 1,184 units in May 2022.

Jeep Meridian (1,071 units)

Jeep recently launched the Meridian SUV in India and the newly launched SUV is the 7-seater version based on the Jeep Compass SUV. Jeep sold 1,071 units of Jeep Meridian SUV in June 2022, meaning the SUV has gained tremendous momentum in the country.

Despite sharing many components with the Jeep Compass, the automaker has somehow managed to make the Meridan SUV look a lot more premium than the Compass SUV.

MG Gloster (151 units)

The MG Gloster SUV sales has taken a tremendous hit in June 2022 as the automaker barely managed to cross the 150 unit sales mark. This means the flagship SUV of MG could only manage a very distant third as the company managed to sell 151 units in June 2022.

Looking into numbers, the MG Gloster sales were down by more than 50 per cent as the company had managed to sell 306 units in June 2021. However, MoM sales figures improved as MG managed to sell 100 units more compared to the previous month.

Skoda Kodiaq (79 units)

While the Skoda Kodia SUV might not be as big and brawny as Toyota Fortuner, this large SUV from the Czech automaker is an excellent mile-munching machine and an outstanding family SUV as it delivers strong performance, long features list, and a comfortable ride.

Despite all these qualities, Skoda Kodiaq sales still seem to be dull and the automaker could only manage to sell 79 units of Kodiaq in June 2022. Moreover, MoM sales for this Czech 7-seater SUV dipped by more than 25 per cent.

Mahindra Alturas G4 (65 units)

The Alturas G4 is a very refined large SUV and the SUV is the automaker's flagship product. However, it seems Mahindra has totally lost its interest in the Alturas G4 as Mahindra could only manage to sell 65 units in June 2022.

In June 2022, Mahindra could only manage to sell 65 units of this large SUV. However, YoY sales figures improved by more than 306 per cent as the company managed to sell just 16 units in June 2021. However, MoM sales declined by almost 28 per cent as the company managed to sell 25 units more than the month before.

Ford Endeavour (0 units)

The Ford Endeavour used to be a very popular large SUV and the SUV also had a very loyal fan base in the country. Apart from that, the last update added a very fuel-efficient yet punchy 2.0-litre powertrain to the vehicle.

However, Ford's exit from the Indian automobile market meant 0 units of Ford Endeavour SUVs were sold in June 2022. However, it is worth mentioning that the automaker had sold 892 units in June 2021, which is 343 units more than what Toyota had managed to do with the Fortuner SUV in June 2021.

Thoughts About Large Premium SUVs In India

The large premium SUV market in India is dominated by the Toyota Fortuner and with Ford Endeavour gone, it seems like the market is now owned by Toyota itself. However, the Jeep Meridian's sales performance is very strong, but we do not think the SUV will challenge Fortuner's domination anytime soon.
