Best Selling Compact SUVs Of March 2022: Creta Takes The Top Spot
The compact SUV segment has become very popular among Indian consumers in recent years, thanks to a good combination of space, price and punchy powertrains. Despite the launch of newer models and the presence of European brands such as Volkswagen and Skoda, the segment is still dominated by South Korean automakers.

Though it was the launch of Renault Duster that gave this segment initial sales boost, the Hyundai Creta quickly became a household name with its long equipment list and powertrain options.

Hyundai Creta (10,532 units)
The Hyundai Creta is one of the most consistent selling cars in the Indian automotive market and an irreplaceable asset to Hyundai Motors in India.

In March 2022, Hyundai sold 10,532 units of Creta SUV in India. However, thanks to rising fuel prices and new competitors in the market, YoY sales of the SUV has dipped by more than 16 per cent as the South Korean automaker managed to sell 2,108 units more in March 2021.

Kia Seltos (8,415 units)
The Kia Seltos single-handedly laid the foundation for Kia Motors in India. The long list of features and attractive pricing made the SUV an instant hit in the Indian automotive market.

Though Kia Seltos is still a popular choice among compact SUV buyers, YoY sales have dipped by more than 20 per cent as the South Korean automaker managed to sell just 8,415 units in March 2022. In comparison, the automaker sold more than 10,000 units last year during the same time.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (2,674 units)
Though the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross sales figures are poor by the standards set by Maruti Suzuki, it is currently the third best selling model in its segment.
In March 2022, the Indo-Japanese carmaker sold 2,674 units of this SUV, resulting in a YoY sales increase of almost 6 per cent.

Skoda Kushaq (2,499 units)
The launch of Skoda Kushaq has been a game-changer for Skoda in India. The launch of this 5-seater SUV single-handedly improved Skoda's sales figures in India.

Though Skoda Kushaq is yet to challenge the sales figures of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the sales figures do show that the Czech automaker has successfully taken a sizable chunk of the SUV market by selling 2,499 units in March 2022.

Volkswagen Taigun (2,390 units)
Under the skin, the Volkswagen Taigun is almost identical to the Skoda Kushaq. Moreover, like the Kushaq, the Taigun helped Volkswagen gain lost traction in the Indian automotive market.

Despite being a relatively new SUV in the market, the Volkswagen Taigun sales figures stood at 2,390 units in March 2022.

MG Astor (2,248 units)
The demand for the MG Astor SUVs has gone through the roof and the recent semiconductor shortage has also hampered its outright sales figures.

However, despite being a new SUV, MG managed to sell 2,248 units of MG Astor SUVs in March 2022.

Nissan Kicks (65 units)
The Nissan Kicks could have been a worthy rival to the Hyundai Creta. However, the lack of focus and poor strategies stopped the SUV from reaching its full potential.
Thanks to a series of mistakes by the manufacturer, Nissan could only manage to sell 65 units of Kicks SUV in March 2022 with a YoY sales decline of almost 54 per cent.

Renault Duster (0 units)
The Renault Duster is a comfortable and rugged SUV that used to generate a good chunk of sales for the French automaker. However, the lack of worthy updates and inconsistent strategies led to the current state.

Thoughts About Compact SUVs In India
The South Korean automakers have a clear upper hand in this segment and we expect this dominance to continue for a few years.
