American carmaker Ford has revealed the all-new Mustang at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show. The new 2023 Ford Mustang sports a sharper design, new interior tech and a next-gen 5.0-litre V8 engine.
2023 Ford Mustang Design & Features
The 2023 Ford Mustang's design is an evolution of the current version of the iconic Pony car. Ford has gone the extra mile to ensure that the 4-pot Ecoboost and the V8 models of the new Mustang look different from each other.
The new Mustang sports a new upper grille influenced by the design of the original Mustang from the late 1960s. The new Mustang sports sleeker tri-bar LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The V8 version of the new Mustang gets a darker grille along with nostril-like sections on either edge of the grille that feed air to air intakes behind them. Also seen at the front is a redesigned front splitter along with new vents on the bonnet that vent out hot air from the engine while also reducing lift levels over the front axle.
The 2023 Ford Mustang rides on alloy wheels that range from 17 inches all the way up to 20 inches in size. Hidden behind the wheels are the brakes with callipers available in three colour options - Black, Red and Grabber Blue.
The rear section of the all-new 2023 Mustang features an extended deck and widened haunches. The new Mustang sports LED taillights with the Pony car's iconic three-bar light signature.
The new Mustang continues to be offered in both coupe and convertible guises. Ford claims that a simple, one-touch activation with a single-handle centre latch opens and closes the fully lined and insulated fabric roof. Even with the roof folded down, the Mustang can carry up to 2 golf bags in the boot.
Ford claims the biggest change in the all-new Mustang can be found inside the cabin of the muscle car. The new Ford Mustang's fighter-jet-inspired cockpit features dual displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is the smaller of the two displays at 12.4-inches and sits behind the new flat-bottomed steering wheel.
The infotainment unit is a 13.2-inch touchscreen running Ford's Sync4 setup and supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new Mustang also features Amazon's Alexa digital assistant for voice commands and over the air software updates. The infotainment system comes linked to a B&O sound system for those who don't like the rumbly soundtrack from the available powerplants.
2023 Ford Mustang Specifications
Ford will continue to offer the 2023 Mustang with either a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-pot or its iconic 5.0-litre Coyote V8. The twin-scroll turbocharged four-pot engine sports a new turbocharger and a changed bore and stroke while the Coyote V8 now features dual air intakes and dual throttle bodies that help minimize induction loss by enabling higher air flow rates.
Ford hasn't revealed power or torque figures for either engine on offer which continue to be offered with either 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission options. The new Mustang sports six driving modes - Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, Track and a customizable setting with up to six individual profiles.
The optional Performance Pack gives both Ecoboost and V8 models a few track focused upgrades including Tower Brace, Torsen Limited Slip differential and optional MagneRide active suspension, wider rear wheels and tyres, and larger, 390-millimeter front and 355-millimeter rear Brembo brakes. Also on offer with the performance pack are optional Recaro seats and an active exhaust.
Thoughts About The 2023 Ford Mustang
Ford has continued to let its Pony car roam free and wild with the new 2023 Mustang. While the new 2023 Ford Mustang may have retained both the manual gearbox and its V8 engine, this may very well be the last generation of the iconic pony car to sport the same.
