In India, the second-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR was introduced back in 2010 and continued to be in production till 2019. During this time, Maruti Suzuki introduced new facelifts at regular intervals to keep the model fresh and attractive.

Unlike the second-generation WagonR, the third-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR was no longer based on the 'Kei' WagonR sold in Japan and was completely new and developed on Suzuki's larger HEARTECT platform.

This means the current-generation WagonR comes with a lot more interior space and the strength of the chassis has also improved without adding additional weight. In fact, the current generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR is lighter than its predecessor.

Expect the 2022 iteration of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR to come with a similar set of engine options - 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre. The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 66bhp of peak power and 90Nm of peak torque, whereas the larger 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 81bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque.
