Design

Starting with the design, the 2022 iteration of the Audi A8 looks more futuristic with its stylish design elements all around the exterior. However, the most eye-catching elements are the redesigned air intakes, new Digital Matrix LED headlights and the large single-piece front grille with three-dimensional chrome elements.

These Digital Matrix LED headlamps use chips equipped with 1.3 million micromirrors capable of changing orientation up to five thousand times per second. However, these Digital Matrix LED headlamps are optional units and not part of the standard equipment on any variants of the new Audi A8.

Powertrain

The new 2022 Audi A8 comes with a choice of three engine options. The first engine option is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 TDI diesel engine further assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to further improve the efficiency and performance of this powertrain.

Thanks to this mild-hybrid set-up, the diesel engine pushes out a respectable 286bhp of peak power and 600Nm of peak torque.

The second engine option is a 3.0-litre TFSI turbocharged V6 petrol engine with plug-in hybrid tech. Thanks to this more advanced technology, the powertrain produces 443bhp of peak power and 700Nm of peak torque. Without this hybrid unit, the petrol unit alone produces a healthy 340bhp of peak power and 500Nm of peak torque.

In addition to the extra oomph, the plug-in hybrid model of the Audi A8 can travel in electric power alone for 61kms at speeds up to 135 km/h, courtesy of its 14.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack and 136bhp permanent magnet synchronous electric motor.

The third engine on offer in the 2022 Audi A8 is a much more powerful 4.0-litre V8 engine with 571bhp of peak power and 800Nm of peak torque.

Speaking about the active suspension on the new Audi A8, the system uses the vehicle's 360-degree camera to detect and identify objects and, lift the car up to 8cms if necessary to reduce the risk of a side impact.
