Czech carmaker Skoda is all set to reveal the all-new Slavia sedan on the 18th of November. The new Skoda Slavia will replace the Rapid in the carmaker's lineup and will go up against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
The all-new Slavia will be the second Skoda vehicle to be released as part of the VW Group's India 2.0 project. The project is spearheaded by the Czech carmaker and has revealed only a few details about its brand new sedan ahead of the Slavia's global debut next month.
The Slavia takes its name from the earliest days in Skoda's storied past. When Skoda first started out building bicycles and motorcycles in 1895, it sold these vehicles under the Slavia brand name.
Skoda Slavia Dimensions
The Skoda Slavia, like the Kushaq SUV that arrived before it, is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB A0 IN platform. The new Skoda Slavia measures 4541mm long, 1752mm wide and 1487mm tall.
The Slavia's wheelbase comes in at 2,651mm which is longer than those of its rivals including the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
Skoda Slavia Engine & Gearbox Options
When it hits the Indian roads, the Skoda Slavia will be offered with two engine options which will come mated to a trio of transmission options.
The smaller of the two engine options is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol three-cylinder which produces 113.4bhp and 175Nm of peak torque. The 1.0-litre engine will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The larger of the two engines that will be offered with the new Slavia is the VW Group's 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol unit. This engine will crank out 148bhp and 250Nm of torque under the bonnet of the new Slavia.
The new Skoda Slavia's 1.5-litre engine will be offered alongside either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch) automatic gearbox. This engine also features cylinder deactivation tech, which sees it shut off half its cylinders when engine load is low, enhancing fuel efficiency.
Skoda Slavia Safety Features
The Skoda Slavia will come packed with a host of safety features when it enters the Indian market. While Skoda has kept quite a few details under wraps, the Czech carmaker has revealed a few tidbits with regards to safety.
The new Skoda Slavia will be offered with up to six airbags — driver and front passenger as standard along with optional front side and curtain airbags. Other safety offerings that have been revealed include a multi-collision braking system, cruise control and rear parking camera.
Skoda Slavia Expected Pricing & Rivals
The all-new Skoda Slavia will rival the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. We expect Skoda to be competitive with its pricing with the Slavia expected to start at around the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark when it arrives in showrooms.
Thoughts About The Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia comes as a breath of fresh air in the sedan space, which has been steadily declining with the rising popularity of SUVs. The Skoda Slavia may not stem the rise of the SUV but it sure as hell will offer a different choice to someone not interested in the SUV craze.
