The upcoming Jeep H6 will be introduced in the South American market initially and will be built in Brazil. However, for the Indian market, it will be locally manufactured alongside the Compass. We also suspect Jeep to give its new 7-seater SUV a different name.

Mahindra certainly won't be happy with Jeep using the ‘Commander' badge as they have already trademarked that name more than two decades ago. Despite being based on the Jeep Compass, the Jeep H6 looks significantly different especially from the B Pillar onwards.

It comes with slightly longer rear doors and unique rear styling reminiscent of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The longer rear door means that the second-row passengers get a few crucial inches of extra space for easier seating, and ingress and egress.

The Indian version may even get captain seats on the middle-row for greater comfort. We also expect the new Jeep H6 to come with similar interiors as the updated Jeep Compass with a slight variation in materials and other visual elements to make it look more regal.

Powering the Jeep H6 is a 2.0-litre diesel engine similar to the Jeep Compass, but it is rumoured to be much more powerful and closer to the 200bhp mark rather than the 173bhp state of tune. This additional power might be to compensate for the extra weight hanging past the rear axle.

However, we are not sure whether Jeep will introduce their heavily boosted 175hp 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine in India along with the Jeep H6 to rival the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq. Anyhow, we are sure It will come with Jeep's latest 9-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox to efficiently transfer all the available torque to its wheels.

We expect the Jeep H6 to be priced close to the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, with the top-end variant being priced higher than any of its rivals to evoke the ‘more premium' image.

Thoughts On Seven-Seater Jeep Compass

We do suspect the Jeep H6 to come out as successful as the Jeep Compass in India. However, we are sure the Jeep H6 won't be using the ‘Commander' name in India as the brand had previously clashed with Mahindra not once but twice.
