Ola Delays S1 Scooter Deliveries Due To Chip Shortage
Ola Electric is delaying deliveries of the S1 and S1 Pro scooters due to the current chip shortage.
Ola Electric is delaying deliveries of the S1 and S1 Pro scooters due to the current chip shortage claim a new report.
The publication claims that it has access to an email sent by Ola to customers stating that deliveries will now start in the second half of December.
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro were launched on the 15th of August. Ola had opened up the first payment window for the two electric scooters in September where potential owners had paid Rs 20,000 to confirm their bookings. The final payment window for these confirmed bookings opened up on the 10th of November when the electric vehicle manufacturer started allowing potential owners to test ride the new scooters.
Ola Electric has blamed the global chip shortage that has crippled the automotive industry for the delay and has apologised to customers over email. Ola isn't the only automotive manufacturer in India which has had production delays due to the shortage of microchips with companies like Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki also slowing down production levels in a bid to deal with the shortfall.
This isn't the first delay that Ola has faced with regards to the S1 and S1 Pro. The company had postponed the opening of the second payment window for customers by a month and a half to the 16th of December due to what it claimed was an overwhelming demand for the two new electric scooters.
The S1 and S1 Pro are the first two electric vehicles from Ola Electric, an offshoot EV startup that was originally a part of the ride aggregator app. The company is currently planning on getting two new vehicles other than the S1 and S1 Pro with one being an electric motorcycle. Ola electric is also planning on introducing a brand new electric scooter which will apparently be a whole lot more affordable than the S1 and S1 Pro which are priced at Rs 1 lakh and 1.3 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom) respectively.
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro both use the same single interior permanent magnet type (IPM) mid-drive motor that produces 7.37bhp under normal load. However, the peak performance of the electric motor powering the two scooters is rated at 11.39bhp and 58Nm of torque. The S1 uses a 2.98kWh battery pack while the S1 Pro uses a larger 3.97kWh power supply.

Thoughts On Delivery Delays For Ola's Electric Scooters
The delay in deliveries for the Ola S1 and S1 pro is not good news for either Ola or its customers. we hope that the company will keep to its new deadline.
