Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the interiors of the upcoming electric sedan, the EQS. The company has introduced a whole host of technologies on the EQS. More than 40 new inventions have found their way into EQS.
The EQS is the first model to be based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles. With a Cd value starting from 0.201 it sets a new aerodynamic benchmark for production vehicles.
The main highlight of the EQS's interiors has to be the new MBUX Hyperscreen. According to the company, it is the largest screen fitted to a production car. The MBUX Hyperscreen has several displays that appear to merge seamlessly, resulting in an impressive 141-centimetre wide and curved screen band.
There are three screens on the Hyperscreen technology that are reserved for the instrument cluster, an infotainment screen and an additional screen for the front passenger. There are a total of 12 actuators beneath the touchscreen for haptic feedback during operation.
The screen uses a zero layer technology which will list all the important features without having the user go through various menu levels. "Magic Modules" is the in-house name the developers have given to these suggestion modules, which are shown on the zero-layer. The MBUX system on the EQS recognizes 27 languages with Natural Language Understanding (NLU).
The company has added two coatings of the cover plate to reduce reflections and make cleaning easier. In addition to this, the curved glass itself consists of particularly scratch-resistant aluminium silicate.
Depending on the equipment added by the customer, up to 350 sensors monitor the functions of the EQS and its surroundings. The sensors measure, for example, distances, speeds and accelerations, lighting conditions, precipitation and temperatures, the occupancy of seats as well as the driver's eyelid movements or the passengers' language.
The interiors of the EQS also features the (HEPA) High-Efficiency Particulate Air filter. The filter is offered as part of the optional equipment Energizing Air Control Plus by the brand. The filter will eliminate 99.65 per cent of particles of all sizes. Around 600 grams of activated charcoal are used to neutralise odours. The adsorption area is equivalent to about 150 football fields.
Speaking about the feel-good factor on the EQS, the electric sedan features the Burmester surround sound system. The premium audio system will feature 15 speakers with a total output of 710 watts.
The air-con vents are placed on the dashboard. Although, there are two turbine-style air vents on either side of the dashboard. Upon observation, there is a vent band that spans across the entire width at the top and is very slim at the same time.
The EQS also features a multifunction steering wheel with mounted controls to operate various functions. The steering wheel continues to feature a three-spoke design with a larger Mercedes-Benz logo placed at the centre.
Adding to the serene nature of the EQS cabin, the interior feature ambient lighting. The ambient lighting can be individually set by remote configuration. The lighting is placed across the cabin across all the trim pieces including the large screen.
The design of the door panels borrows from the interior design of modern living spaces. In combination with the AMG Line interior, the EQS is fitted with sports seats. It offers excellent comfort using Avant-garde materials. The Instrument panel, the armrest and the seats feature Microcloud material for an extremely soft touch.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler Group, said, "With our EQS, we have created a completely new, future generation of luxury cars. Based on our style of sensual purity, we create desire by combining a beautifully seductive sculpture with the most progressive proportion."
He further added, "Key features such as the 'one-bow' design and a holistically integrated, highly reduced and seamless styling give the EQS its sporty and progressive look. That's what sets it apart from any other vehicle we have ever created - that's what makes our EQS so extraordinary."
Thoughts About The Mercedes-Benz EQS Interiors Revealed Ahead Of Launch
The interiors of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is packed with a host of features. However, it is also one of the cleanest-looking cabins because of the large touchscreen. Adding to the luxury are some of the nicest materials used by the brand to put together a cabin, which is expected to offer the Maybach experience.
