From the spy shots sent to us by our reader Palaksha Shadaksharappa, it is clear that the Mahindra Getaway uses a near-identical front-end from the outgoing version of the Mahindra Scorpio and when viewed head-on, it could be easily mistaken for a current-gen Scorpio. Even the fog lights and fog light housing look identical to the current-gen Mahindra Scorpio.

However, the few changes become visually more evident once we walk towards the sides. The wheelbase is significantly longer than the outgoing version of the Scorpio and has longer rear overhangs to accommodate large goods.

Though the presence of a longer rear overhang may hinder the Mahindra Getaway's off-road ability, it also ensures that the user can utilise the valuable additional real estate. Other changes on the sides include a '4X4' stickering and a set of alloy wheels on one of the test vehicles from the previous-gen Mahindra Scorpio. .

Coming to the rear, few automotive anoraks may sink into a moment of nostalgia after finding the tail lights from the first-gen Mahindra Scorpio.

Even though Mahindra has discontinued the sales of Getaway in India due to finding few takers, the vehicle has been a popular choice for many adventure seekers and farm owners in Australia and New Zealand.

Unlike the Double-Cab version sold in India, Australia and New Zealand got Single-Cab versions as well, along with additional equipment to meet the requirements.

Along with this, the international version is also equipped with a more powerful version of the 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 140hp and 320Nm of torque. The international version is also equipped with an Eaton differential lock for enhanced off-road ability along with the 'shift-on-fly' four-wheel-drive system.

With the launch of the updated Isuzu V-Cross and the success of the new Mahindra Thar, it is clear that the 'lifestyle' market in India has picked up the pace.

Now, the testing of Mahindra Getaway in Ladakh could be proof that Mahindra is planning to launch the Getaway in India.

The presence of two test vehicles in Ladakh also gives rise to the suspicion that Mahindra may be testing two different states of tune, and the most obvious and sensible choice being the 140hp version.

However, to take the fight to the Isuzu V-Cross, Mahindra may even consider bringing the more powerful 155hp motor with 360Nm of torque along with an automatic gearbox for added convenience.
