Korean carmaker Kia has revealed teaser images of its upcoming EV9 electric SUV concept ahead of its debut at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show. The EV9 Concept previews Kia's flagship 7-seater all-electric SUV that will be the flagship vehicle of Kia's electric vehicle lineup.
The preview design sketches show off a rather boxy design with Kia's distinctive styling elements on full display. Among these distinct styling elements are LED lights which stretch from the top of the bonnet section down to the front bumper where they curve across the front of the massive SUV. Also seen are vertical strips of LED lights that form up on either side of the front bumper.
The heavily sculpted bonnet looks rather cool as does the hexagon-shaped section of the roof that we can safely assume to be a sunroof.
The sides of the Kia EV9 Concept are dominated by the heavily flared chunky wheel arches that play host to some rather snazzy looking alloy wheels. The flared wheel arches add more width to the SUV's profile and give it a rather muscular look. Like other concept cars, the EV9 does not sport any door handles while the wing mirrors have been replaced by cameras.
At the rear, the vertically stacked taillights follow the chunky lines of the flared wheel arches and also feature a horizontal kink that gives them a rather unique look.
Kia has revealed the front section of the EV9's cabin. Sitting atop the immensely wide dashboard is an octagonal slab of glass that will play host to the driver's information display and the infotainment system. The width of the dashboard shown in the sketches suggests that the EV9 Concept will be a rather wide vehicle.
When we consider the rumours suggesting that the EV9 is expected to arrive as a full-sized 7 seater electric SUV, the cabin of the Kia concept is expected to be rather gargantuan in size, with ample room for all passengers seated inside. Considering that it is a concept vehicle, expect the Kia EV9 Concept to feature some rather offbeat seating and lighting features.
Like the Hyundai SEVEN that will also be making its debut on the floor of the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Kia EV9 will be based on the Hyundai Group's E-GMP EV platform. The E-GMP platform integrates an 800V electrical system, so the EV9 will allow for up to 350kW DC fast charging which should, in turn, lead to lightning-fast charging speeds even with the massive battery pack expected to be offered under the floor of the SUV.
We expect the EV9 to be quite brisk off the mark as it is expected to feature a dual-motor setup. Considering the current Kia EV6 dual-motor setup cranks out 577bhp, we expect the Korean carmaker to push the power numbers to deal with the added weight of the EV9's massive body and larger battery pack.
Thoughts On The Kia EV9 Concept
The teaser images of the KIA EV9 concept show off a massive electric SUV that promises to be a show stealer when it hits the floors of the LA Auto Show on the 17th of November.
