Kia Carnival 32 Units Given By Telangana Chief Minister To State Collectors For Official Travel Duty
32 Kia Carnival MPVs handed over to the district collectors in Telangana. According to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the collectors deserve good vehicles as they travel on official duties.
The Kia Carnival currently retails between Rs 24.95 lakh and Rs 33.95 lakh, ex-showroom (Telangana). As a result, the move from the ruling government faces the heat from opposition party BJP, saying it is a waste of money. During these unprecedented times due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it does not justify the spending made by the government, says BJP.
Putting things in perspective, Telangana on Sunday recorded 1,280 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total affected tally to over six lakh. Since each car costs around Rs 30 lakh, a whopping 9.6 crore have been spent for the comfort of government officials to do their job in the state.
Speaking about the Kia Carnival itself, the MPV is offered in three variants: Premium, Prestige and Limousine. According to the reports, the State Government has bought the entry-level Premium variant, which would eventually cost Rs 30 lakh on-road.
The Carnival was first launched in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. The MPV is currently imported into India via the (CKD) Completely Knocked Down route and assembled at the company's manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh.
The Carnival MPV is offered with best-in-class four-row seating for nine occupants. The MPV is also offered in seven and eight seating configurations. The entry-level Premium variant is available in a seven-seat configuration, which will be the one preferred by the Telangana state government for their collectors.
The premium MPV is over five metres long making for a spacious cabin with loads of headroom, and legroom for the passengers in all the rows. Some of the other features include a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with ventilation function, three-zone climate control, wireless charging, Kia's UVO connected-car tech, and a smart air purifier; among others.
The Kia Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 197bhp, and 440Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic torque-converter gearbox as standard.
The company recently announced a unique buyback scheme for the Carnival. Customer will receive 95 per cent of the ex-showroom price — here are all the details.
Thoughts About The Telangana Handing 32 Kia Carnival MPVs To State Collectors
Buying expensive 32 Kia Carnival luxury MPVs worth over 9.6 core seems unnecessary during these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, the justification provided by the state government behind the move seems illogical as the Covid-19 affect patients numbers continue to increase.
