Iconic American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson will launch the new Sportster S at India Bike Week 2021 which will take place on the 4th and 5th of December in Aamby Valley. The all-new Sportster S was revealed to the world earlier this year by Harley Davidson and features a brand new engine.
Speaking about the engine, the new Sportster S features an all-new Revolution Max 1250 T engine. The 60-degree V-twin (obviously) engine displaces 1,252cc and features liquid cooling. The Sportster S' engine produces 121bhp and 125 Nm of peak torque which is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed manual gearbox and a slipper clutch.
The engine vents its fury to the world through a large 2-1-2 exhaust setup that exits slightly below the rider's seat. The new engine is a stressed member of the chassis of the new Sportster S. The new Harley sports a tubular frame chassis with Showa suspension on either end.
The front end features 43mm inverted shocks which are fully adjustable. The rear end sports a linkage mounted piggyback monoshock setup with compression, rebound and hydraulic spring preload adjustability.
Braking duties are handled by large disc brakes fitted with Brembo callipers. The front disc brake is a 320mm floating rotor with radially-mounted 4-piston callipers. The rear disc is a smaller 260mm rotor with a floating single-piston calliper.
The 2021 Harley Davidson Sportster S features a staggered wheel setup with a 17-inch wheel up front and a 16-inches at the rear that are shod with 160/70 TR17 and 180/70 R16 Dunlop tyres respectively. Both the wheels are lightweight cast aluminium units.
The new Harley Davidson Sportster S is 2,265m long, 843mm wide and 1,089mm tall. The bike has a 1,519mm long wheelbase and a seat that sits 752mm above the ground. The ground clearance of the Sportster S is a rather worryingly low 93mm. The fuel tank of the Sportster S holds 11.8 litres of fuel with 3 litres in reserve. Harley claims a fuel economy of around 21km/l. The Sportster S has a claimed wet weight of 228 kilogrammes.
The Harley Davidson Sportster features a round 4-inch TFT display that gives the rider information with regards to speed, gear, odometer, fuel level, clock, trip, ambient temperature, low temperature alert, side stand down alert, TIP over alert, cruise, range and a tachometer.
The display can also connect via Bluetooth to the Harley-Davidson app that allows the rider to get phone call alerts, navigation alerts and connect to their music. Harley has also fitted the new Sportster S with a USB type C port to keep phones charged up.
Other features include fully LED - headlight, taillight and turn indicators - along with a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), cornering ABS, cruise control, traction control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and four riding modes - Road, Sport, Rain and Custom.
Thoughts On the Harley Davidson Sportster S
The Harley Davidson Sportster S is one of the newest bikes in Harley's lineup and is a proper single-seater for the biker looking to rumble along the highways of the country. We expect the new Harley to cost in excess of Rs 15 lakhs.
