The Volkswagen Vento 1.0-litre TSI mileage has been revealed. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine produces 108.5bhp and 175Nm of torque, and comes mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter unit.
According to AutocarIndia, the Volkswagen Vento returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.69km/l in its manual transmission format. It is a 1.6kmp/l improvement over the BS4-spec Vento with the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which had an ARAI rating of 16.09kpl.
The mileage figures for the automatic variant are yet to be revealed. However, we expect the automatic variant to return a mileage that is similar to its manual counterpart. In comparison, the BS4 1.2-litre TSI engine which came mated to a seven-speed DSG returned a mileage of 18.19km/l.
The Volkswagen Vento rivals the Hyundai Verna, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Honda City and the Toyota Yaris in the Indian market. Among all the Vento's rivals, the Hyundai Verna is the only other model with a three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.

Comparing the mileage figures of the Vento 1.0 TSI to its rivals, the German sedan sits right in the middle of its competition, only behind the naturally aspirated Verna by a small margin. On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz leads in terms of mileage mostly because it features the brand's ‘SHVS' mild hybrid technology. It returns an ARAI rated mileage of 20.65kmp/l — around 2km/l more than the Vento.
The Toyota Yaris and the Honda City returns a mileage of 17.10km/l and 17.40km/l, respectively. This makes the Yaris the least fuel efficient sedan sitting at the bottom of the table, while the City is placed fourth in the table.
Comparing the automatic variants, the Toyota Yaris again takes the last place. However, this may change when the Vento automatic variant mileage figures are revealed. Among all the automatic transmissions in the market, the torque-converter units are generally less efficient than CVT or the AMT units.
As mentioned earlier only two of the five sedans are offered with a forced induction turbo-petrol engine. The VW Vento has a higher torque figure, while the Verna produces 10bhp more and is offered with a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. The Hyundai Verna turbo returns an ARAI-rated 19.52kpl and is the second-most efficient automatic in the list.
The Volkswagen Vento retails between Rs 8.86 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh for the manual variants, while the automatic variants cost between Rs 12.09 lakh and Rs 13.29 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Thoughts About The Volkswagen Vento 1.0-Litre TSI Mileage Comparison
The Volkswagen Vento is now sold only with a single engine option as the diesel powertrain was discontinued on the BS6 models. Most of its rivals offer both petrol and diesel powertrains with a host of different transmission configurations. The competition is about to get hotter as Honda is about to release an all-new fifth-gen City in the Indian market. Whether this will affect sales of the German sedan remains to be seen.
