Volkswagen Ameo & Tiguan Models Discontinued In India — Here's Why
The BS6 norms were implemented in India, starting from the 1st of April. With the new regulations now in effect vehicle manufacturers are slowly discontinuing multiple products which do not comply with the new emission norms. Volkswagen India is one such brand which has discontinued the Ameo and Tiguan models from its lineup. The two models have also been removed from the brand's official website as well.

The Volkswagen Ameo was launched in India back in 2016. The car was available in both petrol and diesel engine options. It included features like a dynamic touchscreen infotainment system, AppConnect, auto air-conditioning system, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and static cornering lights among a host of others. It also included safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat-belt reminders, ISOFIX, high-speed alerts and reverse parking sensors as standard equipment.

The petrol engine in the Ameo was a 1.0-litre MPI engine. The unit was capable enough to produce 75bhp of power and 95Nm of peak torque and was mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel engine was a 1.5-litre TDI unit and produced 109bhp and 250Nm of peak torque and was coupled to a 7-speed DSG. The 1.0-litre petrol engine is already available in its BS6 avatar in the Polo, while the diesel unit has not been updated.

The Tiguan made its debut in the Indian market in 2017 and was only available with a diesel engine. The SUV featured LED headlights and DRLs and a wide front grille with chrome accents flanking the headlamps clusters. The car also got an all-black dashboard and had a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control.

As far as safety was concerned, the Tiguan was loaded with features such as 6-airbags, ABS, ESC, ASR, EDL, disc brakes at both ends and EDTC. Also, the VW Tiguan came with a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, 3-zone air conditioning with rear controls and many more features.

The Volkswagen Tiguan SUV was offered with a 2.0-litre TDI unit mated to a 7-speed DSG and produced 147bhp and 330Nm of peak torque. This five-seater SUV has now been replaced by its larger sibling, the Tiguan AllSpace. The new seven-seater Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace comes powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine which pumps out 188bhp of power and 320Nm of torque.

Thoughts On The Discontinuation Of The Ameo And The Tiguan
Since the BS6 norms have kicked in, manufacturers are discontinuing the vehicles that do not meet the emission norms or updating it to BS6 and that is a major step in protecting the environment against air pollution.
