Top Cars At Auto Expo 2020: Here Is Our Pick Of The Top Crowd Pullers From The Expo
The Auto Expo 2020 is a biennial event held at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, once every two years. The event is the largest gathering of automotive brands, showcasing a number of products, including upcoming models and concepts for the future.
Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Great Wall Motors, Kia Motors, Hyundai, MG Motors and many other brands showcased a number of products, which attracted large crowds to their pavilion.
Here is our list of some of the top crowd-pullers at the Auto Expo 2020, which grabbed the most attention at the event: (the list is not arranged in any particular order)
Haval Concept H
The Haval Concept H from Great Wall Motors was one of the main highlights from the Chinese brand's pavilion. The Concept H was showcased in its near-production-ready form at the Auto Expo 2020. The Concept H comes with a bold and muscular design, lots of chrome and sharp lines.
Great Wall Motors is expected to bring the production-spec version of the Haval Concept H to the Indian markets. The product will be positioned in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment in India, with an expected launch scheduled sometime in 2021.
2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol
Maruti Suzuki finally unveiled their much-awaited Vitara Brezza petrol for the Indian market. The new Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol comes powered by the same 1.5-litre BS6 unit, which also powers the Ertiga and the Ciaz.
The new Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol is expected to go on sale in the Indian markets in the coming months, with bookings for the compact-SUV scheduled to begin anytime soon.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine on the Vitara Brezza produces the same 104bhp and 138Nm of torque as on other models. It also comes mated to the same five-speed manual gearbox, with a four-speed torque-converter unit offered as optional.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra
The Suzuki Jimny is one of the most popular models from the brand globally. Maruti Suzuki finally debuted the Jimny Sierra in the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2020. The company also confirmed that the five-door version of the Jimny will come to India by 2021.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will most likely feature the same 1.5-litre BS6-compliant engine as on the Ertiga and upcoming Vitara Brezza petrol. Once introduced in India, the Suzuki Jimny could be sold as the Gypsy, although the brand is yet to confirm any details officially.
Kia Sonet Concept
The Kia Sonet Concept attracted a lot of visitors at the Auto Expo 2020 as well. The Kia Sonet will be the brand's first compact-SUV offering in the Indian market. The production-spec version of the Sonet has been spied testing on multiple occasions, codenamed the QYI in the Indian market.
The Kia Sonet once launched in India will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon among others. It will carry forward the BS6-compliant version of the Venue SUV's engines, along with the same transmission options as well.
Kia Seltos X-Line
The Kia Seltos is currently the country's best-selling SUV. The Korean carmaker at the Auto Expo unveiled a more rugged concept version of the Seltos, in the form of the X-line. The new Kia Seltos X-line is based on the top-spec GTX+ variant powered by the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with the 7-DCT automatic transmission.
The Kia Seltos X-line comes with a host of new cosmetic updates, including a new paint scheme, contrasting accents all around, blacked-out bits including the front grille and ORVMs; among others, giving it a more sporty, off-road and rugged appeal.
MG Gloster
The MG Gloster is the latest premium SUV offering from the British brand for the Indian market. Expected to go on sale in India later this year, the MG Gloster will be positioned above the Hector SUV in the brand's portfolio, which already includes the eZS as well.
The MG Gloster is based on the global Maxus D90 model. The Gloster is expected to feature a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 220bhp, borrowed from the D90 SUV. Once launched in India, the MG Gloster will rival the likes of the Mahindra Alturas G4, Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner.
2020 Hyundai Creta
Hyundai unveiled the all-new 2020 Creta SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. The new (2020) Hyundai Creta comes with an all-new design, inspired by the ix25 SUV, showcased at the 2019 Beijing Motor Show.
The new Hyundai Creta is scheduled to go on sale in the Indian market in the coming months, with certain dealers already having begun accepting bookings for the same. The new (2020) Hyundai Creta will be powered by the same engine which powers its cousin, the Kia Seltos. It will also borrow the transmission units from the Seltos.
Tata Sierra EV
The Tata Sierra EV Concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, garnering a lot of attention from visitors. The Sierra EV Concept pays homage to the original Sierra SUV/estate of the 90s in terms of its overall design.
This includes the glass canopy at the back, the three-door design and the overall silhouette. The Sierra EV is just a concept with no plans to enter production anytime soon. However, Tata Motors has confirmed that there is a possibility for it in the future, based on the customer response and reactions.
Tata HBX Concept
The Tata HBX concept is the brand's latest mini-SUV offering for the Indian market. The Tata HBX showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 is said to be in its near-production-ready form, with a launch confirmed to take place later this year.
The new Tata HBX once launched in India will borrow the engines from the Altroz premium hatchback and will be positioned below the Nexon SUV. The Tata HBX will rival the likes of the Maruti S-Presso, Renault Kwid and the Mahindra KUV100 in the Indian market.
Tata Gravitas
The Tata Gravitas was showcased for the first time in India at the Auto Expo 2020. The production-ready SUV is essentially a seven-seater version of the Harrier model. The Tata Gravitas was first showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as the ‘Buzzard' and is expected to go on sale in the Indian market by end-2020.
The Tata Gravitas SUV will be powered by the same 2.0-litre ‘Kryotec' diesel engine, which also powers the Harrier. The engine produces 173bhp and 350Nm of torque and will come mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission unit.
Once launched in India, the Tata Gravitas will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming MG Gloster and Hector Plus.
Mahindra Funster Concept
The Mahindra Funster unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 is a roofless SUV concept showcased at the brand's pavilion. Although Mahindra states that the Funster concept was unveiled to assess customer reaction and interests, we feel that it could preview the next-generation XUV500 model for the Indian market.
Mahindra eKUV100
Mahindra launched the eKUV100 in the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2020. The Mahindra eKUV100 is currently the most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market with a price tag of Rs 8.25 lakh, ex-showroom.
The eKUV100 is offered with a 40kW electric motor producing 53bhp and 120Nm of peak torque. The electric motor is further mated to a 16kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a maximum range of 120km on a single charge. The Mahindra eKUV100 is offered with both standard and fast-charging technology as well.
