Japanese carmaker, Nissan is all set to introduce the Magnite in the Indian market. The Nissan Magnite is the brand's all-new B-SUV, which was unveiled globally on the 21st of October 2020.
The brand-new Nissan Magnite will be positioned in the highly competitive sub-4 metre compact-SUV segment in the market. The new Nissan Magnite seems to have been packed with features, while also offering a rather striking design which could favour its chances against its rivals in the segment.
The new Nissan Magnite is expected to go on sale in the Indian market sometime in the coming months. Once introduced in India, Nissan will be hoping that the Magnite will be a game-changer for the Japanese brand, which currently does seem to be struggling to find its footing in the country.
Ahead of its launch in the Indian market, we got to spend some time with the Nissan Magnite. While we are yet to drive the compact-SUV, here are our first impressions, talking about its design, interiors, features, specs and all other aspects.
Design & Style
The new Nissan Magnite as mentioned before features an extremely striking design with sharp lines and creases all around. The SUV also comes with black-cladding all around and flared wheel arches, giving it a rugged appeal.
Starting with the front, the new Nissan Magnite's design is characterised by the large octagonal grille. This is surrounded by a thick chrome strip on all sides, with the grille itself having chrome-inserts as well.
The large grille is flanked on either side by sleek sweptback headlamp units with LED projectors. The SUV features the L-shaped LED DRLs lower down on the front bumpers, similar to what is seen on the latest-generation Datsun Redi-GO hatchback.
Further down, the front bumpers of the Magnite also feature black-cladding which houses the fog lamps at either end while there is a central air dam and a silver skid plate as well.
Moving to the sides, the new Nissan Magnite comes with a set of stylish 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. These are housed in large wheel arches, which continue to feature the black cladding as well. There are also sharp lines and creases which run along the length of the SUV, adding a more muscular look to the Magnite.
Nissan will be offering the Magnite SUV with a dual-tone roof. The black-roof further comes with silver-finished roof rails, further adding to the SUV character of the Magnite. These silver elements can also be seen on the bottom part of the side doors as well.
The rear profile of the Nissan Magnite continues with the SUV's overall sharp and sporty look with wrap-around halogen tail lights. It also features a roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated LED strip. The rear bumper comes with prominent silver-finished elements, while also housing black skid plates and reflectors.
The boot-lid itself is clean with just the ‘MAGNITE' badging placed at its centre. The boot-lid on the Nissan Magnite we got our hands on even featured the ‘Turbo' and ‘CVT' badging, confirming the engine and transmission options available.
Interiors & Features
Moving to the interiors of the compact-SUV, the Nissan Magnite features a full-blacked-out cabin with silver accents all around. These silver accents can be seen on the steering wheel, gear lever, AC vent surrounds and the side door handles.
The three-spoke steering wheel itself is large, wrapped in leather and has a flat-bottom. It also comes with mounted switches to control various functions such as calls, alerts and audio controls; among others.
Behind the steering wheel is a large fully-digital instrument cluster, displaying a host of other functions apart from the standard speedometer and rev-counter. Drivers can toggle through various functions on the instrument cluster using the switches on the steering wheel.
The Nissan Magnite also features a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This unit comes with smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment unit also comes with a number of other features as well.
The dashboard itself comes with premium soft-touch materials all around, It also gets hexagonal-shaped AC vents, two of them at the centre and one at each end. The central console also features the automatic climate control settings, while also having the charging sockets as well.
The seats themselves on the Nissan Magnite come wrapped in premium fabric upholstery, finished in dual-tone black/grey colours. The seats offer good amount of cushioning with plenty of adjustments available.
The rear seats also offer good amount of comfort. There is a decent amount of space with plenty of headroom and legroom for even tall passengers. The rear seats come with a central armrest as well, which offer additional comfort for the passengers. Nissan also offers the Magnite with rear AC vents, positioned at the centre.
The Nissan Magnite also offers plenty of storage and cubby spaces all around the front and rear of the cabin. The compact-SUV also offers a decently-sized 334-litres of boot space. The SUV also comes with 60:40 rear seat split, which further extends the boot space whenever required.
Engine & Transmission Options
Nissan is yet to officially announce the engine and transmission options on their Magnite SUV. The car we spent some time with was powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, mated to the brand's Xtronic CVT automatic transmission unit.
We expect Nissan to also offer a standard 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a manual transmission for the lower variants. This, however, is yet to be confirmed closer to the date of launch.
Rivals & Expected Pricing
As mentioned before, the Nissan Magnite will be positioned in the highly competitive compact-SUV segment. The SUV will take on rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and the latest entrant to the segment, the Kia Sonet.
While the pricing for the Nissan Magnite is yet to be officially announced. We expect the compact-SUV to be priced competitively, ranging from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts About The New Nissan Magnite
The all-new Nissan Magnite is one of the most important models for the brand in the Indian market. Nissan has high expectations from the Magnite and from what we have seen, so do we. While we are yet to drive the SUV, the Magnite has definitely managed to give a good first impression with its bold and sporty design, interiors packed with features and competitive engine options.
