German auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is hopeful that sales will recover during the festive months starting August this year.The brand feels that customer sentiment is on the rise and sales are turning for the better in some regions that are showing signs of economic recovery across the country.
Mercedes said that there were no changes in their plans to launch 10 new products in the country, but highlighted that some launches could be rescheduled because of global supply chain conflicts.
Mr Martin Schwenk, the Chief Operating Officer at Mercedes-Benz India said, "I am optimistic, people would also want to celebrate but it might not be the biggest of all gatherings in October or November, whenever it happens, because restrictions which I am sure will remain. But I hope people will really appreciate and also want to celebrate."
The CEO also said that an induced normalcy would help consumer sentiment turn more positive, but a majority of stability was dependent on Covid-19 restrictions.
He said, "Even if it is a managed normalcy that would really help in reviving sentiment, wherever we have stability in the market in terms of Covid-19 related restrictions, the sentiment is developing positively."
Mercedes is currently facing challenges in areas where micro-lockdowns are in effect, and are witnessing potential customers rescheduling purchase of new vehicles.
The brand has already launched seven of the 10 vehicles they planned, and are preparing to launch their Mercedes-Benz EQC electric offering over the next few weeks. The EQC was originally scheduled for an April launch.
In Mercedes related news, the brand has announced that its 2021 S-Class models will feature the world's first-ever rear seat airbags.
