Car Sales Report For May 2020: Maruti Suzuki Registers 18,539 Units Of Sales Post Lockdown
Maruti Suzuki has announced sales of 18,539 units in the Indian market in the month of May 2020. Among this, 13,865 units are from the domestic market; 4,651 units from exports and the remaining 23 units to a different OEM (Toyota Glanza).
Comparing the May 2020 sales of Maruti Suzuki to the same period last year, the company has registered a year-on-year decline of around 86 per cent. Maruti Suzuki registered 1,34,643 units of sales in the month of May 2019. Domestic sales have registered a slightly higher decline of close to 89 per cent, dropping from 1,25,552 units during the same month in 2019.
The sales in the month of May 2020, come following a complete shut down in operations and businesses in the country. Similar to almost every other vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki registered 0 units of sales in the month of April 2020. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had put the entire country under lockdown.
Maruti Suzuki reopened their Manesar facility for the first time in over a month on the 12th of May, while its Gurugram plant reopened a few days later on the 18th of the month. Production at both facilities began soon, with the company catering to the pending orders from the pre-lockdown period.
The Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd., also announced a restart of their operations on the 25th of May. The SMG facility manufactures vehicles for MSIL on a contract-basis. All three manufacturing facilities have said to resume operations, following the guidelines and protocols set by the government.
Maruti Suzuki has also come up with a set of norms and safety guidelines of their own, which has been shared with all their dealerships across India. The company dealerships which are out of the containment zones and have reopened, have been asked to mandatorily comply with the new SOPs to ensure workforce and customer safety at every step.
Thoughts About Maruti Suzuki Sales Report In May 2020
The country is still coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, with many areas affected more than the others. The government has released a new set of lockdown rules, which has brought in certain relaxations, allowing businesses to restart, including for the auto industry. Maruti Suzuki hopes that the demand for vehicles will improve in the coming months.
