Car Sales Report For July 2020: Hyundai Creta Outsells Kia Seltos For Third Month In A Row
The mid-size SUV rivalry continues as the Hyundai Creta outsells the Kia Seltos for the third month in the Indian market. Both South-Korean SUVs are similar in terms of features and powertrain options.

However, there is a major difference between both the SUV's design language. The Hyundai Creta is known for its controversial looks, while the Kia Seltos features a bold and striking design with the brand's signature tiger-nose grille.

During the month of July 2020, the new Hyundai Creta has registered 11,549 units of sales. In comparison, the Kia Seltos has registered 8,270 units sold during the same period — 3,279 units less than the rival.

In May 2020, the Hyundai Creta registered 3,212 units, and the Kia Seltos posted 1,611 units. While in June 2020, Creta and Seltos registered 8,270 and 7,114 units, respectively. As a result, this is the third time the Creta managed to come on top in monthly sales figures consecutively.

The Hyundai Creta retails at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, while the top-of-the-line variant costs Rs 17.2 lakh. On the other hand, the Seltos has received a few upgrades on various trims and for 2020 Model Year. It now retails between Rs 9.89 lakh for the base-spec and Rs 17.34 lakh for top-spec variant. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (Delhi).

Both the SUVs are offered with the same engine and transmission options. This includes a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 115bhp and 144Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre diesel engine churning out 115bhp and 250Nm of torque, and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor producing 140bhp and 242Nm of torque. All three comes mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox.

SUVs are offered with different automatic options depending on the engine. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine is offered with a 7-speed DCT automatic, while the 1.5-litre petrol and the diesel engines are being offered with a six-speed iVT, and a six-speed torque converter unit, respectively.

There are some differences in features between both the SUVs. However, both come well-equipped as compared to its other segment rivals. Some of the highlighted features include an electrically operated sunroof, connected technology, air purifier, climate control, digital TFT instrument console, large touchscreen infotainment display, a premium sound system and the list goes on.

In related news, The upcoming next-gen i20 will be the brand's next biggest launch in the Indian market. The company aims to provide a feature-packed premium hatchback with the next-gen model. It is also expected to come equipped with a top-of-the-line sound system that is currently equipped in the Hyundai Creta — here are more details.

Thoughts About The Hyundai Creta Outselling The Kia Seltos For Third Consecutive Month
Hyundai has been there in the India market longer than Kia and so are the models. The Creta, in its older iteration, was the brand's best-seller. However, during the end of its life-cycle, the design and feature needed improvement.
Although the features got a huge boost along with powertrain options, the design change is still a controversial topic. All in all the new Creta has gained the acceptance of Indian buyers very quickly.
