Honda Jazz BS6 Will Be Sold As Petrol Only Models In India: Here Are All The Details
The Honda Jazz BS6 models will be sold only with petrol-engines once launched in the Indian market. The premium hatchback is expected to be launched sometime during the next month in the country.
Speaking to Autocar India, Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. stated that the company has taken the decision based on the sales report during the financial year 2019-2020. During the previous financial year Honda on an average sold 80 per cent of petrol vehicles, and 20 percent of diesel powered models in the Indian market.
The petrol to diesel model ratio changed depending on the model in the brands's portfolio. Looking at the figure ratios from the Jazz, customers preferred to choose petrol variants as compared to diesel powertrain. As a result, the company has taken the decision to sell the upcoming BS6 Jazz with a petrol-engine only. That being said, it will continue to offer its diesel engine, which still has a demand in the market including the WR-V and the Amaze compact-sedan.
The BS6 Honda Jazz has been teased ahead of its launch by the company on their website. It will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol-engine that will be updated to meet BS6 emission standards. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produced 89bhp and 110Nm of torque, and came mated to a five-speed manual or an optional CVT automatic.
Apart from an updated engine, the upcoming Jazz BS6 is also expected to feature few changes inside and out. This includes new redesigned headlamps, with minor cosmetic changes made to the overall design of the hatchback.
On the inside, the 2020 Jazz BS6 will include a physical button control unit for the climate control system, which will replace the touchpad control seen on the older models. Other expected updates include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and the brand's connected technology as well. It will continue to feature Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, climate control, and a start/stop push button, which are seen on the BS4 models.
The Jazz BS6 is also expected to be revised in terms of safety equipment. The premium hatchback will include dual-airbags, ABS with EBD, rear camera with parking sensors, ISOFIX mounts, and six airbags on the top trims.
Once launched, the Honda Jazz will rival the Hyundai i20, the Volkswagen Polo, the Maruti Baleno, the Toyota Glanza and the Tata Altroz in the Indian market. The new Jazz BS6 model is expected to be priced slightly higher than its BS4 counterpart because of an updated engine and minor tweaks made to the hatchback.
Thoughts About The Honda Jazz BS6 Sold As Petrol Only Models In India
The premium hatchback segment is highly competitive in the Indian market. Most of the Jazz's rivals do offer diesel and petrol engine options catering to a wider audience in the segment. Whether the sales of the BS6 Jazz gets affected due to the absence of a diesel powertrain remains to be seen.
