Delhi Metro Prepares For Resumption Of Operations: Sanitises Stations & Network Of Trains
The lockdown that was announced in light of the Covid-19 outbreak resulted in an absolute halt of public transport that included inter-city and intra-city trains, buses, metro services, cabs, and auto rickshaws. With the ease in lockdown restrictions announced, public transport services are slowly beginning to resume operations.
Reports suggest that the Delhi Metro is to begin operations soon. The Metro service has been closed since 22 March this year, and the organisation has used that time to train its housekeeping, and driver staff to maintain safety standards for once operations begin.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said that customer and staff safety is the top priority, and as part of their new safety protocols, customers will be issued contactless cards for tickets instead of the normal token type tickets that were issued.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has also taken steps to sanitise all areas of the Metro network including one that is frequented most by customers — the entry and exit points, the elevators and escalators, AFC gates, washrooms, and the trains themselves.
Metro officials still haven't been given a green light to resume operations, but say that they are ready to begin operations, and are prepared. They are also hopeful of the Government's orders to resume business to arrive soon.
Mr Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi recently announced that 15 special trains have begun operating from the Capital to various places across the country and that his Office was hopeful that more trains would be added over the next few weeks.
Thoughts About The Possibility That The Delhi Metro Will Resume Operations Soon
We think that opening public transport in a country like India isn't a wise idea at all. Indians do not understand how to and do not know to follow rules that are meant to help save their lives. Resuming operations for anything that facilitates too many people will lead to a spike in Covid-19 cases.
We hope the Government decides to keep public transport closed during the next lockdown that is going to be addressed shortly. It is critical for the national health of the country.
