Concept Cars At Auto Expo 2020: Here Are Some Of The Most Interesting Concept Cars Showcased
The Auto Expo 2020 is well underway, featuring a number of brands showcasing a large array of products for the Indian market. Apart from new India-bound products, the Auto Expo 2020 also offers a chance for manufacturers to showcase concept models and assess customer reactions and interest, to possibly inspire their future models.
Having said that, here are some of our top picks of concept cars showcased at the Auto Expo 2020: (the list is not arranged in any particular order)
Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e Concept
Maruti Suzuki showcased their all-new Futuro-e concept at the Auto Expo 2020. The Maruti Futuro-e concept features an SUV design with a coupe-like sloping roof at the rear. The Futuro-e was unveiled to garner customer reactions and interest.
Though the car itself will not enter production, the Futuro-e concept does preview Maruti Suzuki's new design language which could inspire most upcoming models from the brand.
Skoda Vision IN
The Skoda Vision IN has finally made its debut in India. The Skoda Vision IN showcases the brand's latest design language, as part of its ‘India 2.0' project. The Skoda Vision IN previews the design language and platform for all future SUVs coming to India from both Skoda and Volkswagen.
The Skoda Vision IN is part of the brand's India-specific MQB A0 IN platform, which will be the basis of all future SUVs coming to India by the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India brand.
Renault Symboiz Concept
The Renault Symbioz Concept was part of the French carmaker's pavilion at the Auto Expo 2020. The Symbioz is the brand's all-electric and autonomous car concept from the brand, first showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Renault Symbioz concept was mainly brought to India to showcase the brand's technological and design advancements. The Symbioz comes with a rear-wheel-drive configuration, with two electric motors; one at each rear wheel.
Hyundai Le Fil Rouge Concept
The Hyundai Le Fil Rouge is another concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, brought in to create excitement and show-off the brand's future design language and technology. The design of the Le Fil Rouge was also used to inspire the latest-generation Hyundai Sonata sedan, which premiered at the 2019 New York Auto Show.
Roewe Vision-i Concept
The Roewe Vision-i Concept was first showcased at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show and has now made its way to India at the Auto Expo 2020 MG Motor pavilion. The Vision-i Concept represents SAIC's future design direction. It also comes packed with features such as autonomous technology, unique driving modes like lazy, sleeping, education, meeting; among others.
The Roewe Vision-i Concept is also the first car in the world with 5G connected smart cockpit, which allows drivers and passengers to interact with the system; something which MG calls Smart Proactive Vehicle.
Haval Concept H
Great Wall Motors showcased an array of models at the Auto Expo 2020. The company which is expected to enter the Indian market this year, made its presence felt with one of the largest pavilions at the Auto Expo 2020. Among the large model showcased, GWM also globally premiered their new Haval Concept H electric SUV.
Though the specifications of the Haval Concept H is yet to be revealed, the company states that the electric SUV will make it into production with an India-launch possible as well. Concept H showcases a stylish and modern design, aimed to target young customers, both globally and in India.
Haval Vision 2025
The Haval Vision 2025 is another concept SUV showcased by Great Wall Motors at the Auto Expo 2020. The Vision 2025 as the name suggests, will not enter production until the year 2025, however, its debut in India is mainly to showcase its future design language.
The Haval Vision 2025 also showcases the brand's connected technology, along with its electric powertrain for future models from the brand. Specifications for the model are scarce at the moment, with very little information being revealed by the company.
Kia Sonet Concept
The Kia Sonet Concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020, previews the brand's upcoming compact-SUV model, codenamed the QYI. The new Sonet compact-SUV features a host of new features and equipment while also offering a stylish design and sporty appearance.
The production-spec version of the Kia Sonet once launched in India will rival the likes of the new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the Tata Nexon. It will borrow its engines from the Venue, this includes both petrol and diesel engine offerings.
Mahindra Funster Concept
The Mahindra Funster Concept is a roofless electric SUV showcased by the brand at the Auto Expo 2020. The Funster comes with high ground clearance, powerful electric motors and large battery capacity with excellent range. The highlight of the concept though is the scissor door on offer.
However, this electric concept SUV will never make it into production. The company stated that the Mahindra Funster concept was unveiled mainly to showcase the design language, while also assessing customer interest and reactions.
Tata HBX Concept
The Tata HBX mini-SUV unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 is a near-production ready concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. The Tata HBX is scheduled to launch in India this year and is based on the H2X or Hornbill concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Once launched, the Tata HBX mini-SUV will most likely rival the Maruti S-Presso, Renault Kwid and even the Mahindra eKUV100 in the Indian market. It will be positioned below the recently facelifted Nexon SUV in the brand's product portfolio for India.
Tata Sierra EV Concept
The Tata Sierra EV is definitely the showstopper at the company's pavilion at the Auto Expo 2020. The Sierra EV Concept from Tata Motors, pays homage to the original Sierra of the 90s, with its glass canopy at the rear, design and other features.
The Tata Sierra EV is not expected to make it into production anytime soon. However, if it does, it will be introduced as an electric vehicle; featuring a modern and stylish design, along with a host of equipment.
