Audi Q2 Scheduled For September Launch: Brand To Launch More RS Models As Well
Audi India has been on a roll this year, at least as far as launching news vehicles are concerned. The brand launched its Q8 and A8 L models earlier this year, and launched its second-generation RS7 Sportback just yesterday.
The brand is heavily focused on launching more vehicles this year, and has lined up its Audi Q2 for a September launch. The brand also confirmed that more RS models will make their way to the Indian subcontinent.
Mr Balbir Singh Dhillon, the shot-caller at Audi India said, "As a brand, we are focused on bringing exciting products for our customers and I am happy to share that the all-new Audi RS 7 Sportback isn't the only RS model scheduled for 2020."
Interestingly, the brand has multiple models that it could pick from its global portfolio, although industry speculation is that the next RS model launched will be the RS Q8.
Essentially the standard Q8 on steroids, the RS Q8 super-SUV features a twin-turbo V8 engine that is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid motor. The combination produces a combined total of 600hp, and 800Nm of torque.
The engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all wheels. The vehicle is capable of nailing the 0 to 100kmph mark in 3.8 seconds.
The RS Q8 arrives with an electronically limited top-speed of 250kmph (304kmph with the Dynamic Package), and currently holds the record for the fastest lap by an SUV at the Nurburgring. The SUV's record stands at 7 minutes and 42.2 seconds.
The RS Q8 features a single-frame grille, a larger air intake, a custom made diffuser, and large quad exhausts. Its interiors stay true to the RS bloodline, and features Audi Sport trim badging and digital display settings.
Interiors also feature Alcantara sport seats, an RS specific leather wrapped steering wheel, all-wheel steering, and adaptive suspension that features ride height settings and controlled damping.
Should the Audi RS Q8 be launched in India, it will compete with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Lamborghini Urus, and the upcoming BMW X6 M.
Audi also has other RS models that could be launched in India. These include the RS5 Coupe and RS6 Avant - both of which have featured in the brand's Indian portfolio.
The new RS5 model arrives with some visual upgrades, and features a 2.9-litre V6 engine that produces 450hp. The RS6 Avant however, is powered by the ES Q8's 4.0-litre, 600hp mild-hybrid V8.
Other contenders include the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback models that are powered by a 2.5-litre, five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 400hp.
Thoughts About Audi Planning To Launch More RS Models In India
It appears that Audi is really focused on regaining its ground in the country. The brand is definitely having a fantastic year as far as launching vehicles are concerned. More RS models means the performance car segment will have more vehicles to choose from and will also bring healthier competition.
