Tata Nexon EV Unveiled In India Ahead Of 2020 Launch: Bookings To Start Soon

Tata Motors has unveiled the new Nexon EV in the country. The new Tata Nexon EV is the first electric vehicle from the brand to use their all-new Ziptron powertrain. The new Tata Nexon EV is expected to go on sale in the Indian market by early 2020.

At the unveil event, Tata Motors also announced that bookings for the new Nexon EV will begin from the 20th of December 2019 at select company dealerships across India. Booking amount for the new Tata Nexon EV is said to be Rs 21,000.

The new Tata Nexon EV is said to be powered by 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery, mated to a permanent magnet AC motor. The lithium-ion battery is said to be liquid-cooled and will come with IP67 certification for dust and water resistance.

The powertrain on the Tata Nexon EV will offer a maximum range of 300km on a single charge while the motor pushes out a healthy 245Nm of peak torque. Tata Motors also claims that the new Nexon EV will be able to sprint from 0 - 100km/h in around 9.9 seconds.

Tata Motors also stated that the battery on the Nexon EV will come with fast-charging technology. This will allow the batteries to charge up to 80% in just 60 mins, while standard charging time will take around 8 hours.

The batteries on the Tata Nexon EV will also come with BMS (Battery Management System). This will give it an extended life cycle of up to 8 years with consistent performance throughout. The powertrain is also said to have a cooling circuit which will ensure smooth performance even under hot weather conditions.

The design of the Tata Nexon EV previews the facelift version of the standard fuel-powered SUV, also expected to debut soon. The Nexon EV can be seen with an updated set of sharper-looking projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs.

The headlamps flank a slightly updated front grille at the centre. There is also a new set of fog lamps and an updated central air intake on the front bumper as well.

The Tata Nexon EV showcased at the unveil event came with a new Electric Teal paint scheme. This is the same colour scheme which was showcased on the Tata Altroz EV earlier this year at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Apart from the new paint scheme, the Nexon EV will also come with blue elements all across; to help differentiate between the standard and the electric version. The Tata Nexon EV is said to be offered in a range of three variants: XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX.

All three variants will be offered with a host of features and equipment as standard. This includes keyless entry, automatic climate control, dual driving modes, push-button start/stop, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (borrowed from the Altroz), automatic headlamps and wipers, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a host of others.

Thoughts On The New Tata Nexon EV Unveil In India

The Tata Nexon EV although not the first all-electric product from the brand, is the first model to use the company's new Ziptron powertrain. The new Tata Nexon EV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15 - 18 lakh, ex-showroom. Once launched in India, the Tata Nexon EV will rival the likes of the Mahindra eXUV300 and the upcoming MG eZS SUV as well.
