Tata Gravitas Spied Undergoing BS6 Emission Testing Ahead Of Launch: Spy Pics & Details
Tata Motors is all set to introduce the Gravitas SUV in the Indian market. The new Tata Gravitas will be the brand's latest 7-seater flagship model in India. The 7-seater SUV is expected to go on sale in the Indian market in February 2020.
Ahead of its launch, the Tata Gravitas has been spied testing by CarDekho. The spy pics of the test mule showcases the SUV fitted with the emission testing kit; suggesting that the Gravitas is undergoing tests to meet the BS-VI norms of April 2020.
The Tata Gravitas is expected to come powered by the same 2.0-litre ‘Kryotec' diesel engine as on the Harrier. However, the seven-seater SUV will receive a higher state-of-tune. The engine on the Gravitas will produce 173bhp and 350Nm of peak torque; around 30bhp more than on the Harrier.
The engine will be mated to the same six-speed manual gearbox as the Harrier. While Tata is said to be working on introducing a six-speed automatic transmission option, which might be introduced at a slightly later stage. The engine on the Tata Gravitas will be compliant with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms, which will later be carried forward on the Harrier as well.
The Tata Gravitas is based on the five-seater Harrier, which was launched in India earlier this year. The Gravitas was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, with the name ‘Buzzard'. The new seven-seater SUV is 62mm longer than the Harrier, to accommodate the third row of seats.
The tail of the Gravitas has also been updated and comes with a more upright boot lid, compared to the Harrier. However, apart from these and other subtle changes, the Gravitas remains mostly similar to the Harrier.
The Tata Gravitas is also the second product after Harrier to be based on the brand's new OMEGA architecture. The SUV will also be part of Tata's latest ‘Impact 2.0' design language, which first debuted on the Harrier. This new design language will further be carried onto the Altroz premium hatchback, along with the next-generation Nexon, Tiago and Tigor models.
