Tata Altroz Production-Spec Model To Be Unveiled In December: India-Launch Expected Next Year

Tata Motors had previously announced the launch of the Altroz premium hatchback in August. However, the company decided to postpone the launch to next year, allowing the brand to introduce the Altroz with BS-VI compliant engines from the start.

Now, tata Motors has announced the unveiling of the new Altroz for December 2019. The Tata Altroz will be positioned in the premium hatchback segment, to compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Toyota Glanza.

The new premium hatchback from Tata Motors will also debut the brand's ‘ALFA' platform. The Altroz will be the first product to feature the new platform, before being carried forward on to other future small models, including the upcoming H2X SUV offering.

The Altroz was first showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, the hatchback has been spied undergoing extensive testing multiple times in the country. In terms of design, the Tata Altroz will feature the brand's ‘Impact 2.0' styling, first seen on the Tata Harrier SUV.

Inside, the new Tata Altroz is expected to host a number of features and equipment, making it a very attractive cabin. Features on the new Altroz include a floating 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, segment-first part-digital instrument cluster, blacked-out dashboard with contrasting body-coloured surrounds for the AC vents, ambient lighting and many more.

In terms of engine options, the Tata Altroz is expected to feature three options. This includes two petrol and one diesel engine options. The petrol units include a 1.2-litre NA petrol producing 86bhp (borrowed from the Tiago) and 1.2-litre turbo-petrol churning out 102bhp (borrowed from the Nexon).

The lone diesel engine option comes in the form of a 1.5-litre unit churning out 90bhp. All three engines are said to be introduced with BS-VI compliance. Tata will also offer a standard five-speed manual gearbox with the three engines, with an automatic transmission scheduled to arrive at a slightly later stage.

The Tata Altroz has been creating quite a buzz in the country, ever since its concept version (45X) was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Tata Motors is expected to price the Altroz competitively in the market, offering a good competition to its rivals.
