Renault Kwid Facelift Launch Scheduled For September 2019: Features New Dashboard Design & More
Renault India is all set to launch a facelift version of the Kwid. The company is in the final stages of testing the new hatchback before its launch in September 2019. The upcoming Kwid facelift is said to carry forward the same BS4 engines from the current model.
The Kwid facelift is said to borrow its design elements from the globally launched Kwid KZE electric car. Just like the Kwid KZE, the upcoming Kwid facelift will get design elements like a split headlamp setup. The LED (DRL) Daytime Running Lights will be positioned near the grille, and the main head lamp will be placed lower on the bumper.
The new hatchback will also feature LEDs in the tail-lamp, a completely redesigned front and rear bumper, and new hub caps. With all the exterior changes, the upcoming facelift version of the Kwid will look more appealing.
The upcoming Kwid facelift will also share some interior elements from its elder sibling, the Renault Triber. This includes a redesigned dashboard which will house a fully-digital instrument cluster. This also means an addition of a tachometer which is a first for the hatchback.
Other changes include redesigned air conditioning vents for better airflow. The hatchback will also feature the same steering wheel unit seen on Triber.
We also expect the new Kwid to feature an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as seen on the Triber.
The new Kwid facelift will carry over the same engine and transmission options that the current Kwid uses. Power outputs will remain the same, with the 800cc engine making 54hp of power and 72Nm of torque. While the larger 1.0-litre engine produces 68hp of power and 91Nm of torque.
The refreshed Kwid will continue with BS4-compliant engines for now. However, Renault will introduce BS6-compliant engines closer to the April 2020 deadline. Gearbox options will include a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT, which will also be carried over from the outgoing model.
The upcoming Kwid facelift will become safer with changes in the hatchback's construction to meet the new upcoming crash test norms on October 2019. Also, we expect the refreshed Kwid to offer dual-front airbags, as compared to drive-only airbag in the present model. The new hatchback could go a little further to offer four airbags as seen on the Triber.
Once launched in India, the Renault Kwid facelift will rival the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, an upcoming tall-riding hatchback due to launch next month. The other rival in this segment would be the Datsun redi-GO, among other hatchbacks.
Thoughts On The Renault Kwid Facelift
The new Renault Kwid has been around since 2015 and needs an overhaul. With the overall design changes, the hatchback would look much more pleasing. By meeting the new crash test norms for construction, the Kwid would get safer which is also essential.
