Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Wagon R at a starting price of Rs 4.19 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The 2019 Maruti Wagon R comes with a lot of improvements over the previous version of the iconic hatchback, in terms of both design and equipment. Bookings were already started ahead of the launch for an amount of Rs 11,000.
The new Maruti Wagon R comes in only a petrol format, but with two engine choices: 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre. The 1.0-litre engine makes 67bhp and 90Nm of torque while the 1.2-litre unit churns out 90bhp and 113Nm.
That being said, these are the top features of the new Maruti Wagon R (2019 MY)!
As mentioned before, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is entirely new compared to its predecessor. The HEARTECT platform serves as the base for many other Maruti Suzuki products such as the Swfit, Ertiga, Ignis and Baleno. It promises good driving dynamics by cutting down the kerb weight (without compromising too much on safety).
The 7.0-inch SmartPlay infotainment system on the new Wagon R is a breeze to use. It supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; plus a lot of other features. The SmartPlay Dock lets you mirror your smartphone with the car's UI.
AGS (Auto Gear Shift)
The new Maruti Wagon R comes with a five-speed manual as standard, while the higher 1.2-litre variants are available with an optional AGS unit. The AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit does its duty on a lot of other Maruti Suzuki products and comes with a manual mode too.
The Maruti Wagon R's 2006 iteration was the first car under Rs 10 lakh back then to feature electrically-adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear-View Mirrors). The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is now available with electrically-foldable ORVMs.
Split-Folding Rear Bench
Adding more to the practicality factor, the Maruti Wagon R gets a split-folding rear bench. Foldable in 60:40 ratio, it gives the compact hatchback some extra room to carry your luggage.
Other Features Of The New Maruti Wagon R
In addition to the above-mentioned features, the new Maruti Wagon R offers the following as well:
- Steering-mounted controls
- Electrically-adjustable ORVMs
- Dual airbags
Thoughts On The New Maruti Wagon R
The new Maruti Wagon R is expected to bring a lot of sales to the brand, just like the previous model. The Wagon R, with its unique tall-boy design and compact dimensions, has always been an ideal choice for the urban market. The new Wagon R is the same, but in a better package.
