Honda City BS-VI Petrol Engine Specs Leaked: India Launch Expected Next Year
Japanese auto manufacturer Honda, is all set to introduce their BS-VI products in the India market. Ahead of launch, a leaked document revealed by Rushlane showcase the Honda City 2020 model receiving BS-VI certification.
The document reveals the upcoming sedan to be powered by the same 1.5-litre iVTEC engine, which is currently featured on the current model. The BS-VI compliant engine produces max power of 177.6bhp at 6600rpm, which is also the same as the BV-IV spec unit. Although, the document does not reveal the torque figures, we expect it to remain the same at 145Nm.
The document also reveals that only the manual trims of the petrol variant getting certified. The trim levels on the manual spec will be carried over to the BS-VI petrol models and remain unchanged. The current Honda City petrol engine paired to a manual gearbox is offered with four trims of SV, V, VX and ZX.
The upcoming BS-VI model of the sedan will also feature an On Board Diagnostics I (OBD-I) mandated by the government. The document further confirms the upcoming model's dimension will be carried forward from the current model and remain unchanged as well. The dimension on the current model reads 4440mm in length, 1695mm in width, and 1495mm in height with a wheelbase of 2600mm.
We expect the upcoming model to feature same transmission options on the petrol variants. The current Honda City petrol models are offered with either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission unit. However, the upcoming model of the Honda City could also feature a mild-hybrid system mated to a petrol engine for improved fuel efficiency as well — here are more details.
There is no word on the iDTEC diesel engine receiving BS-VI certification yet. However, it is expected that the company will carry forward the 1.5-litre diesel engine to make it BS-VI compliant. The 1.5-litre diesel engine powering the current model produces 97.8bhp and 200Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard.
Apart from the powertrain, the upcoming Honda City BS-VI is expected to continue featuring LED headlamps with DRLs, LED tail lamps, a new chrome front grille and rain sensing wipers as seen on the current model. It also features a 16-inch rims with diamond-cut alloy wheels as well.
On the inside the current model features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Mirrorlink support, an electric sunroof, leather upholstery, steering wheel mounted audio controls; among others. Honda City comes equipped with airbags, ABS with EBD, rear view camera and parking sensors.

The BD-VI petrol specs getting leaked indicates towards the upcoming sedan getting launched soon in India. Honda has managed to keep the power output of BS-VI petrol engine same, as compared to the current BS-IV unit. This showcases the quality of current BS-IV petrol engine from Honda to be top-notch.
