MG Hector Receives Software Update On its iSmart System: SUV's First OTA Update Rolled Out
MG has pushed out an update to the Hector SUV's AI enabled software. The Hector SUV is the first SUV launched in India that comes equipped with embedded eSIM for internet connectivity.
The company has released its first ever over-the-air update for the Hector's 'iSMART' system. The new update will feature some improvements added to the existing software features and AI voice commands.
The software update to the infotainment system will happen similar to a smartphone getting updated. MG plans to roll out the update in a phased manner. Alternatively, the owners of the Hector SUV can contact MG's pulse hub service to know more about the software release as well.
The AI enabled internet connectivity is paired with a 10.4-inch vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment system. This enables the owners to control various features of the SUV through a smartphone application and voice commands. This includes AC, sunroof, tailgate and door operations.
Owners of the Hector SUV can also speak to the on-board voice assistant to control the SUV, with over 100 voice commands enabled. Once the owners calls out saying "Hello MG" the on-board voice assistant will be activated to carry out further instructions. For example, to open the sunroof, the driver can say "Hello MG, Open Sunroof" and the voice assistant would do the rest.
The SUV also features on-board navigation powered by TomTom with live traffic alerts, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), geo-fencing, emergency call assistance, a button to contact for general assistance, and a premium Gaana account preloaded offering a wide variety of music to choose from.
MG Hector is available with two engine options: a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 143bhp and 250Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre diesel engine churns out 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. The petrol variant of the SUV is also offered with a 48V mild-hybrid variant as well.
All engine options come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, while the non-hybrid petrol variant is offered with an optional DCT automatic transmission unit.
The safety net on MG Hector includes six airbags, 360 degree camera, Traction Control System (TCS), front parking sensors, ESP, ABS with EBD and more. The MG Hector is priced between Rs 12.48 lakh to Rs 17.28 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
Alongside the software improvements the company has also increased their production to fill the current order of 40,000 units booked and reduce the wait time. The company has achieved a milestone by crossing 10,000 Hector SUVs produced — here are more details.
Thought About MG Hector Receiving Software Updates
Being an AI enabled vehicle, the company needs to regularly improve the software and voice enabled commands on the SUV for a smooth and lag free experience. Glad to see MG's commitment toward keeping their infotainment and internet connectivity features updated. This showcases the brand's after sales service toward their customers as well.
