Maruti Ertiga Scores Three Stars At Global NCAP Crash Tests: Details

According to the test report, the body-shell integrity of the vehicle sold in India is unstable. Its structure was deemed as borderline unstable, but the reports said there was room for improvement.

The Ertiga's foot-well area was rated as unstable, and pedals displacement showed risks to the driver's lower legs. Head and neck protection for adult occupants was rated as good, chest protection for passenger was good while chest protection for the driver was marginal.

The report also stated that pre-tensioners failed to work properly. Child occupant protection showed poor results for a test dummy representing an 18 month old, inspite of the vehicle featuring ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The Ertiga was awarded three stars for child occupant protection. The Ertiga offers standard two Seat Belt Reminders (SBR) in the front seats, but does not feature three-point beat belts for all occupants.

The 2019 Maruti Ertiga is available in petrol, diesel, and CNG variants. The vehicle features a new design that is built on the HEARTECT platform. Maruti claims that this platform enhances performance and fuel efficiency, and makes the Ertiga lighter, stiffer and safer as compared to previous models.

The Ertiga is currently priced between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Thoughts About the Three Star Rating For the Ertiga

We're think Maruti must be in panic mode at the moment. Tests for the WagonR and the Ertiga are pathetic (for a lack of a better word), and this must really concern the company. However, when looked from the other side, the Indian consumer has a ‘chalta hai' attitude, and does not really care about what safety features the cars come with. While this should be a catch 22 kind of situation, it isn't, and it's not going to be either.
