Maruti Eeco Sales Up 50 Percent In October: After Omni Discontinued
Maruti Eeco sales have gone up 50 percent over the month of October 2019, after the company discontinued the much loved Omni van. The company discontinued the Omni after new vehicle-safety laws were implemented by the government.
According to the new laws, all passenger vehicles have to be equipped with rear parking sensors, a driver's side airbag, speed sensors, and front passenger/ driver seat belt reminder alarms as standard, and across all available variants.
In addition, all vehicles available in the country have to meet with the (BNVSAP) Bharat New Vehicles Safety Assessment Program crash test norms. Maruti Suzuki felt it was economically impractical to upgrade the Omni and the once infamous Gypsy, and discontinued both models.
However, the former has pretty much always been in high demand due to its easy affordability and highly practical nature, the company has been trying to make sure that the Eeco, a more premium product, ends up being the logical successor to it.
While the Omni is one of Maruti's most successful passenger vehicle ever, consumers are turning to the Eeco thanks to the attractive pricing on it. October saw 10,011 units sold, the largest numbers for the Eeco to date.
These sales figures resulted in a 50 per cent jump in sales, as compared to Eeco models sold during October last year. The sales figures are also up 0.6 per cent as compared to sales from September 2019.
The current-generation Maruti Eeco comes in three petrol variants, all of which feature a 1.2-litre engine that produces 73bhp of power and 101Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission only.
The Eeco is also available in one CNG variant which features a 1.2-litre engine that produces 63bhp of power and 83Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Safety features on the current-generation Maruti Eeco include ABS with EBD, a speed alert system, a seat belt warning system for front passengers,a driver's side airbag, and a reverse parking sensor, making the vehicle BNVSAP compliant.
The Maruti Eeco is available in five-seat and seven-seat configurations, and is priced between Rs 3.59 lakh, and Rs 4.73 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About Sales Figures Going Up For The Eeco
This was bound to happen. Maruti discontinued one model and offered the next best model for cheap. While folk who are used to, and have owned multiple Omni models may not be very happy, they will eventually turn to the Eeco. The right pricing, as always, is what works best in the Indian markets.
