Speculation is that the Rubicon will be called the Moab when launched in India. The Moab (Rubicon) is sold in foreign markets as an off-road bias variant of the Jeep Wrangler.

The Moab (Rubicon) is a highly capable off-road SUV. In fact, it is more off-road ready than other Wrangler variants like the Unlimited and the Sahara. The Rubicon features Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, a Rock-Trac 4X4 system, front and rear locking differentials, and a front sway-bar disconnect system.

In addition, the Moab (Rubicon) has a departure angle of 37 degrees, a break-over angle of 27.8 degrees, and an approach angle of 44 degrees - everything it needs to tackle challenging terrains with ease.

The next-generation Wrangler Moab (Rubicon) is based upon the new JL platform which is lighter than the current JK platform. Jeep will offer the SUV with a new four-cylinder turbocharged 2 litre petrol motor, and the regular 3.6-litre V6 motor.

The new 2.0-litre engine features mild hybrid tech, and produces 274bhp of power and 400Nm of max torque. The engine will come mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. We also expect a 2.2-litre diesel unit which produces 200bhp of power and 488Nm of max torque.

The Jeep Wrangler currently retails in India with two engine options - a 3.6-litre V6 petrol, and a 2.8-litre diesel. Current prices ranges between Rs 58.74 lakh and Rs 67.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India). We expect the Moab to be priced roughly at Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom, India) because of BS-VI compatibility.

Every time a vehicle is spotted while testing is an exciting time. It means that the manufacturer is closer to launching the vehicle. We're excited to see what this beast looks like sans camo, and how it performs.
