Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (Moab) Spotted Again — Spy Pics And Details
The Jeep Rubicon BS-VI variant has been seep multiple time while testing over the last few months. The top of the line variant was spied on again, this time the SUV was seen near Pune.
According to Rushlane, the next-generation Wrangler Rubicon will shall start arriving at showrooms close to Diwali this year. Speculation is that the Rubicon will be called the Moab when launched in India. The Moab (Rubicon) is sold in foreign markets as an off-road bias variant of the Jeep Wrangler.
The Wrangler Moab (Rubicon) features some cosmetic updates when compared with the standard model. The SUV features off-road specific tyres and blacked out alloy wheels, all of which are true to it's DNA.
The Moab (Rubicon) is a highly capable off-road SUV. In fact, it is more off-road ready than other Wrangler variants like the Unlimited and the Sahara. The Rubicon features Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, a Rock-Trac 4X4 system, front and rear locking differentials, and a front sway-bar disconnect system.
In addition, the Moab (Rubicon) has a departure angle of 37 degrees, a break-over angle of 27.8 degrees, and an approach angle of 44 degrees - everything it needs to tackle challenging terrains with ease.
The next-generation Wrangler Moab (Rubicon) is based upon the new JL platform which is lighter than the current JK platform. Jeep will offer the SUV with a new four-cylinder turbocharged 2 litre petrol motor, and the regular 3.6-litre V6 motor.
The new 2.0-litre engine features mild hybrid tech, and produces 274bhp of power and 400Nm of max torque. The engine will come mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. We also expect a 2.2-litre diesel unit which produces 200bhp of power and 488Nm of max torque.
The Jeep Wrangler currently retails in India with two engine options - a 3.6-litre V6 petrol, and a 2.8-litre diesel. Current prices ranges between Rs 58.74 lakh and Rs 67.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India). We expect the Moab to be priced roughly at Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom, India) because of BS-VI compatibility.
Jeep India is also working on two new SUVs, one which is said to be smaller than the Compass, and the other, larger than the Compass. These SUVs will compete with the sub four-metre SUVs like the Mahindra XUV300, and the Toyota Fortuner respectively.
Thoughts About The Moab (Rubicon) Spotted While Testing
Every time a vehicle is spotted while testing is an exciting time. It means that the manufacturer is closer to launching the vehicle. We're excited to see what this beast looks like sans camo, and how it performs. Unfortunately SUVs like the Compass are retailed as luxury vehicle here and no one really does justice to the capability of the machines.
