Hyundai Venue Vs Hyundai Creta — The New Takes On The Proven!

Hyundai India is all set to launch its first-ever compact-SUV in the Indian market, with the Venue. The new Hyundai Venue was recently unveiled simultaneously at both New York and India. The Hyundai Venue though has been teased multiple times ahead of its unveil and is expected to come feature-packed.

This has left some potential customers wondering whether with the arrival of the Hyundai Venue, the Creta has anything unique to offer. We put the two SUVs from the Korean carmaker against each other to see what exactly are the differences between the models.

Design

The Hyundai Venue is the first Compact-SUV in the indian market from the Korean carmaker. The Venue carries forward all the latest design and styling of the brand, including the cascading front grille, dual headlamp units and squarish LED DRLs and tail lights. This gives the Venue a more modern design, in line with the current trends in the market.

The Hyundai Creta also carries forward a similar design language, however, does miss out on the dual-headlamp units which are becoming increasingly popular in the market. The dual headlamp unit can also be seen on the Tata Harrier; a direct rival to the Creta in India. However, the tall-stance and the boxy SUV-stance of the Creta is still popular in the Indian market and being over four-metres, offers more cabin space than the Venue.

Overall Design Rating:
Hyundai Venue: 8/10
Hyundai Creta: 7.5/10

Dimensions & Boot Capacity

Being a sub-four-metre SUV, the Hyundai Venue is definitely more compact than the Creta. The Hyundai Venue is almost 275mm shorter than the Hyundai Creta (Although this does make the Hyundai Venue enjoy tax sops, offered to 'small cars'). Also, the Hyundai Creta is 75mm taller and 10mm wider than the Hyundai Venue, while also having a 90mm longer wheelbase as well. This definitely makes the Hyundai Creta seem more interesting, offering better cabin space as well.

Boot capacity of the Hyundai Venue is yet to be officially announced, however, with the smaller dimensions, one can be almost certain it will fall short here as well. The Hyundai Creta offers a boot space of 405-litres, something which the Hyundai Venue will find hard to match.

Engine Specifications & Transmission

Starting with the Hyundai Creta, the popular SUV in the Indian market comes with three engine options: one petrol and two diesel. This includes a 1.6-litre petrol producing 123bhp and 151Nm of torque. This is mated to either a six-speed manual or torque-converter automatic transmission.

The diesel powertrain options include a 1.4-litre and the more popular 1.6-litre diesel. The smaller diesel engine churns out 90bhp and 220Nm while the larger engine produces 128bhp and 260Nm of torque. The diesel engines again come with the same transmission options of either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The Hyundai Venue on the other hand comes with two petrol engines - 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit borrowed from the i20 Elite producing 83bhp and 115Nm of torque and a brand-new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine churning out 120bhp and 172Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre unit will be mated to a standard five-speed manual while the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol is offered with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT gearbox.

The Hyundai Venue will be the first and only sub-four-metre SUV in the Indian market to offer a dual-clutch transmission, something not available even on the Hyundai Creta.

Features

Hyundai offers good number of features on both their products. However, being the newer model, the Hyundai Venue does come with a little more than its larger sibling. One of the stand out features on the Venue SUV is the BlueLink Connectivity with gives access to 33 additional functions; something the current generation Creta misses out on.

The Hyundai Venue also comes with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, comes with a smaller 7.0-inch display. However, other standard features on both variants include electric sunroof, LED DRLs, alloy wheels, wireless smartphone charging, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, rear AC Vents and six-airbags.

Verdict

Both products from Hyundai offer a number of features and equipment. The SUV also provide a stylish design, in line with the trends in the market. The Hyundai Creta is one of the best-selling SUVs in the market and the top-seller for Hyundai India. The brand however, will hope that the Venue will continue in its footsteps and become a popular compact-SUV as well.

Having said that, we will have to wait until the launch of the Venue to see if Hyundai's first ever Cmpact-SUV for India is worth the buck!
