Honda Civic Retains Executive Sedan Segment Top Spot: Records 30% Month-On-Month Growth
Honda Cars India Ltd has announced that the company's Civic model has retained it top spot in the executive sedan segment. The company has registered a 30 percent month-on-month growth, and has sold 436 units of the Honda Civic during the month of October 2019.
The company sold 336 units of Civic during the month of September 2019. The market share for Civic during the month of October 2019 stands at a spectacular 53 percent in its segment. The company has sold 4,375 units of the current-generation Civic since its launch in March this year.
The Honda Civic is currently leading the sales in the executive sedan segment, and has also contributed to the overall growth of the segment. Cumulative sales for the segment stand at 4,763 units for the period between April and October 2019 (at a growth of 9.5percent) as compared to the cumulative sales of 4,350 units during the same period during last year.
Mr. Rajesh Goel, the Senior Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing at Honda Cars India Ltd said, "The comeback of the Civic this year has given the much needed boost to the executive sedan segment and its one of the few segments which have grown despite the current market slowdown."
"This reaffirms our confidence in the sedan category that there are customers who prefer sedans for their stylish looks and superb driving dynamics. We are thankful to our esteemed customers who have reaffirmed their love for Civic and helped it lead the segment sales," he added.
The current-generation Honda Civic features a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 140bhp of power and 174Nm of torques. The engine comes mated to a (CVT) Continuously Variable Transmission.
The Honda Civic is also available with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel-turbo engine that produces 119bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The top-of-the-line Honda Civic features a 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, features a smart entry system, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat, an electric parking brake, and a multi-angle rear view camera.
The Honda Civic is also on top of its game as far as safety is concerned. The sedan carries a 5-star rating by the ASEAN NCAP, and come equipped with ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist, Honda Lane Watch, and ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors. The Civic is priced between Rs 17.94 lakh and Rs 22.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
