Datsun India, is all set to unveil the CVT automatic variants of the Go and Go+ models on September 23, 2019. The CVT variants of the Go and Go+ models will go on sale next month in the market.

The automatic variants of the Go and Go+ models when launched, will be cheapest CVT variants sold in Indian market. The CVT transmission featured on both the models will be sourced from the Nissan Micra hatchback, Datsun's parent company.

Datsun is introducing CVT variants of both models, in response to the growing demand of automatic transmission buyers in Indian market. Apart from the gearbox both models will go unchanged mechanically.

The GO and GO+ models are powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 68bhp of power and 104Nm of torque. The current models of Go and Go+ are offered with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard.

We expect the CVT automatic transmission on both the models to offer peppy and smooth performance. The CVT transmissions are quite fuel efficient, as compared to other automatic transmissions available in the market. However, they are expensive as well compared to an AMT transmission featured by its rivals.

The petrol engine featured on both the models are still BS-IV complaint, however, the company plans to update the engines to comply with BS-VI emission norms, next year. The BS-VI emission norms deadline is set to April 1, 2020.

The Datsun Go will rival against the Maruti WagonR, Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. All its rivals features an AMT automatic transmission, as compared to the Datsun Go's superior CVT automatic transmission.

The Datsun Go+ did not have any rival in the market, until the launch of Renault Triber last month. The Triber is currently offered with manual gearbox only, with a possibility of adding an automatic variant soon.

The new CVT automatic transmission is expected to be offered only on the top variants of the GO and GO+ models. The top variant of both the model are currently priced at Rs 5.17 lakh, and Rs 5.94 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). We expect the CVT variants to have price increase of Rs 60,000 over the current top-spec pricing.

Datsun has done a brilliant move to give their models an advantage over its rivals with offering CVT transmission, as compared to the AMT used by the Go's rivals. The company has also taken this measure to ensure the Go+ to have an advantage over its feature-rich rival the Renault Triber.
