BMW & Mercedes-Benz Troll Each Other On Twitter For Halloween; Fans Love It
Mercedes-Benz and BMW recently engaged in a witty war of words on Twitter and left the automotive world in laughter. On 31 October, when most of the modern world was celebrating Halloween.
It first started with BMW USA taking a dig at Mercedes-Benz through a picture. Daimler AG then replied to the same picture and pretty much roasted BMW, of course all in the spirit of laughter. Mercedes-Benz, BMW & Audi are known to occasionally take jabs at each other, especially in the US market.
The freedom of advertising laws in the states allows them to do so. What makes this advertising war so brilliant is that none of them take offence, but respond in the spirit of fun and usually leaves the public in laughter thanks to the choice of words and unique images.
This time, the exchange of words happened on Halloween with BMW USA tweeting a picture. The picture depicted a Mercedes-Benz E53 putting on a BMW M5 costume, and the tweet said, "Now every car can dress up as its favorite superhero."
BMW USA was referring to Halloween when people dress up in different costumes, and was implying that Mercedes-Benz E53 was trying hard to be the BMW M5. It was actually a witty tweet and poked fun at the Mercedes-AMG car.
However, Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG was quick to reply. In its response, Daimler said, "Nice one, @BMWUSA. That's a really scary costume! Especially that radiator grille..." Mercedes was referring to the iconic BMW kidney grille.
The iconic grille design has in recent times been stretched out of proportion. Several enthusiasts and critics alike have in recent times criticised the grille as it becomes large and out of control. This was especially found on the BMW Concept 4 that was recently unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Well, with the reply to this tweet, Mercedes-Benz just rubbed it in BMW's face. There was no reply from BMW to this. However, fans of both brands had a good laugh.
